- Burlington, VT Area A healthcare facility located just outside of Burlington, Vermont is seeking an experienced Interim Director of Surgical Services to provide leadership and operational oversight for its surgical services department.
This interim leader will be responsible for directing day-to-day operations, supporting clinical excellence, managing departmental performance, and ensuring high standards of patient care, staff engagement, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. The Director will oversee approximately 108 full-time employees and will work closely with hospital leadership, physicians, nursing teams, and support staff to maintain strong surgical services operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide interim leadership for Surgical Services, including operating rooms, perioperative services, and related clinical areas Oversee approximately 108 full-time employees Support staffing, scheduling, performance management, and employee engagement initiatives Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and patient safety requirements Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, nursing leadership, and executive teams to improve workflow and outcomes Monitor departmental metrics, productivity, quality indicators, and budget performance Lead process improvement efforts to enhance efficiency, patient care, and staff satisfaction Navigate and support operations in a unionized nursing environment
Qualifications:
Current RN license required Prior leadership experience in Surgical Services, Perioperative Services, or Operating Room management Director-level or senior nursing leadership experience strongly preferred Experience leading large clinical teams Nursing union experience required Strong knowledge of perioperative operations, regulatory compliance, staffing, and quality improvement Excellent communication, problem-solving, and physician relationship-building skills
