JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE
Behavioral Health Director
REPORTS TO
Administrator
I. JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for complete oversight of the Behavioral Health unit of the facility. This includes the development and ongoing management of quality behavioral health services; ensuring compliance with all relevant licensing and certification standards; quality review of all required documentation including ensuring proper treatment planning; census development; ensuring proper behavior management; training, supervision and management of Behavioral Health staff; and coordination of services with other facility departments and administration.
II. QUALIFICATIONS A.
Must possess a minimum of a Masters degree in a human service field. B. Must have a experience working directly with people with severe mental illness, conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and implementing interventions. C. Must have a minimum of one year supervisory experience. D. Must be able to read, write and speak the English language in an understandable manner. E. Must posses proficient computer skills and experience working with an electronic medical record. F. Must be willing to work harmoniously as part of an interdisciplinary team. G. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with facility personnel, residents, family members, visitors, consultants, regulatory agencies/personnel and the general public. H. Must possess excellent communication abilities through listening, speaking and writing skills. I. Must be able to maintain an appropriately professional manner at all times, including in intense and/or crisis situations.
III. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS A.
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. B. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds. C. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. D. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to HIV, AIDS, and Hepatitis B virus
IV. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS A.
Oversee and manage the Behavioral Health Unit. B. Ensure quality treatment and behavioral interventions for unit. C. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to assist in developing behavioral interventions. D. Ensure appropriateness of all admissions to Behavioral Health Unit, as per unit policy. E. Ensure overall safety of Behavioral Health Unit, including ensuring maladaptive behaviors are managed appropriately. F. Ensure compliance of all regulatory requirements as set forth by Federal, State, local and facility requirements. G. Ensure quality and timely completion of all required behavioral health documentation. H. Hire, train and supervise Behavioral Health Counselors. I. Work flexible hours, as needed, based on the needs of the Behavioral Health Unit/facility. J. Maintain personal and professional high standards of practice. K. Prepare and provide evidence-based treatment/interventions; train, supervise, and oversee staff in preparing and providing relevant treatment/interventions. L. Intervene with problematic and disruptive behaviors; train, supervise, and oversee staff in intervening with problematic and disruptive behaviors. M. Respond to crisis per facility policy and procedure; train, supervise, and oversee staff in responding to crisis per facility policy and procedure. N. Follow and help maintain and enforce all facility rules, regulations, policies and procedures; train, supervise, and oversee staff in following all facility rules, regulations, policies and procedures. O. Complete all documentation and train and oversee staff in completing all documentation as required by federal, state, local and facility requirements. P. Establish and follow quality assurance protocol to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards. Q. Conduct regular chart reviews to ensure the quality of clinical documentation. R. Manage and oversee the overall functioning of the Behavioral Health Unit, including but not limited to: training and directing staff who work on the unit, in coordination with other department heads/supervisors. S. Attend and participate in all meetings, trainings, etc. as scheduled by the facility administrator and/or AMS Consultants. T. Attend and participate in continuing education programs and in-services. U. Report all signs of resident abuse or neglect. V. Participate in investigations of incidents in facility. W. Respect and enforce all resident rights. X. Review referrals to Behavioral Health Unit, including possibly conducting face-to-face interviews with potential residents at discharging facilities, and participate in acceptance decisions. Y. Assist with business development for the unit. Z. Assist in providing group and individual counseling sessions, case management, and discharge planning services, as needed. AA. Assign case loads to Behavioral Health Counselors and ensure duties including: assessments, MDS, care plans, groups, individual counseling, documentation requirements per case load are completed. BB. Assist in the documentation process of all services rendered. CC. Assist in providing crisis management services. DD. Review relevant behavioral and tracking reports regularly and ensure follow-up. EE. Coordinate services with other facility departments, as well as other professionals contracted in providing services to residents. FF. Develop psychotherapeutic group programming schedules and oversee implementation. GG. Oversee token economy program and maintain inventory of the token/goodie store. HH. Manage and reconcile Behavioral Health unit petty cash. II. Participate in care plan conferences. JJ. Participate in facility's quality assurance initiatives. KK. Ensure all required documentation (i.e. assessments, MDS, group program notes, care plans, etc) is completed timely. LL. Perform other related duties as assigned.
