Job Summary:
The Director of Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) is responsible for the strategic, operational, and clinical leadership of a newly established orthopedic-focused ambulatory surgery center. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality surgical services while maintaining regulatory compliance, optimizing patient outcomes and supporting physician satisfaction and engagement. The Director will play a critical role building the operational components including staffing, workflow and culture development. This position reports to the Director of Operations.
Essential Functions:
Oversee daily operations of the ASC, ensuring efficiency, patient safety, and exceptional patient experience Develop and implement policies, procedures, and clinical protocols tailored to orthopedic surgical services Establish workflows, scheduling processes, and throughput optimization strategies Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including case volume, turnover times, and utilization rates Ensure adherence to clinical standards, infection control protocols, and patient safety initiatives Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and nursing staff to maintain high-quality care delivery Support ongoing clinical competency and staff education programs Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including CMS and accrediting bodies such as Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care Lead accreditation readiness efforts and maintain survey compliance Implement risk management and quality assurance programs Recruit, hire, and onboard clinical and administrative staff Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and patient-centered care Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and professional development planning Ensure appropriate staffing models to meet patient demand
Skills and Competencies:
Exceptional leadership, communication and interpersonal skills to build consensus among physicians, staff and stakeholders Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, physician driven environment while maintaining focus on patient safety and satisfaction. Proven track record of achieving operational and financial goals in a physician owned ASC environment. Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required Experience 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in an ambulatory surgery center or hospital surgical services preferred Prior experience in orthopedic surgery strongly preferred Experience launching or managing a new ASC is highly desirable Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required Experience with accreditation surveys and maintaining compliance preferred
Physical Requirements:
Frequent walking throughout the facility, including operating rooms, pre-op, PACU, and administrative areas Ability to respond quickly in high-pressure or urgent clinical situations Emotional resilience and professionalism when managing complex interpersonal dynamics or operational challenges Fast-paced environment driven by daily surgical schedules, case volume targets, and turnover time expectations Early mornings are typical to support first-case on-time starts; occasional extended hours may be required to meet operational demands or address urgent issues
