Job Summary Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Medical Assistant / Patient Care Coordinator, where you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care and ensuring smooth clinical operations. This energetic position combines clinical support with patient engagement, requiring a proactive approach to patient service, clinical procedures, and administrative coordination. You will work closely with healthcare providers across various specialties, including dermatology, hospital medicine, urgent care, and outpatient clinics, to facilitate efficient patient flow and accurate documentation. Your expertise will help create a welcoming environment that prioritizes patient comfort and safety while supporting the clinical team's needs. Responsibilities Assist with patient intake by collecting comprehensive medical histories, verifying insurance information, and updating electronic health record (EHR) systems accurately. Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate, temperature, and oxygen saturation to support clinical assessments. Prepare patients for examinations and procedures by explaining processes clearly and ensuring their comfort throughout. Perform basic clinical tasks including administering medications under supervision, collecting specimens for lab testing, and assisting with X-ray procedures when applicable. Support physicians during procedures by maintaining sterile fields, handling medical instruments, and managing documentation of ICD coding for billing purposes. Coordinate patient scheduling, follow-up appointments, and referrals to specialists or imaging services like MRI or ultrasound. Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment while adhering to infection control protocols in outpatient settings or hospital units such as Geriatrics or PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit). Utilize EHR systems efficiently to document patient encounters thoroughly and accurately. Support hospital medicine teams by assisting with inpatient care activities within Level I or Level II trauma centers or emergency medicine units. Participate in emergency response protocols by supporting basic life support (BLS) procedures when necessary. Qualifications Proven experience as a Medical Assistant or Patient Care Coordinator in outpatient clinics or hospital settings; experience in dermatology, internal medicine, or medical-surgical units is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and ICD coding standards for billing and documentation accuracy. Familiarity with EHR systems and proficiency in managing patient data securely and efficiently. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; additional certifications related to emergency medicine or hospital experience are advantageous. Demonstrated ability to perform clinical tasks such as specimen collection, medication administration, vital signs measurement, and assisting with X-ray procedures. Excellent communication skills with a compassionate approach to patient service; ability to coordinate multiple responsibilities effectively in fast-paced environments like urgent care or Level I Trauma Centers. Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams across outpatient clinics or inpatient hospital units including Geriatrics or PICU settings.
