Nursing Transition to Practice Coordinator Summary About the
Role/Unit:
The Nursing Transition to Practice Coordinator at Sinai Hospital provides comprehensive oversight and strategic coordination for clinical orientation, the Nurse Residency Program (NRP), clinical student programs, and academic partnerships. Adhering to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Nursing Professional Development Scope and Standards of Practice and ANCC accreditation criteria, the Coordinator ensures high-quality educational outcomes, regulatory compliance, and facilitates the professional development of nurses progressing through their transition to practice. Key Responsibilities:
Onboarding Coordination Facilitates clinical orientation training and ensures the availability and completion of all required preparatory coursework. Develops, implements, and maintains a standardized onboarding structure and framework across the entity. Conducts rigorous competency checks and readiness-to-practice validations. Integrates organizational culture, compliance, and regulatory standards into onboarding programs, verifying all requirements are met prior to unit-based orientation. Nurse Residency Program & Transition to Practice Support Coordinates, oversees, and aligns the core curriculum for the multi-faceted Nurse Residency Program (NRP). Supports newly licensed registered nurses throughout their critical transition to practice during their foundational first year of clinical employment. Implements shared learning resources, evaluation tools, and structured feedback mechanisms to foster professional growth, clinical confidence, and long-term retention. Designs and adjusts cohort-specific learning activities and teaching strategies to meet the diverse educational and emotional needs of residents. Evaluates program effectiveness, clinical progression, and overall resident outcomes to ensure alignment with high-reliability organization standards. Academic Affiliations & Student Program Pathways Coordinates and oversees undergraduate nursing student program pathways, apprenticeship and internship programs. Manages the placement of nursing students within clinical rotations or practicum experiences in close collaboration with nursing leadership. Supports the strategic oversight of the Clinical Affiliation Programs, ensuring institutional alignment with academic partners. Coordinates and processes formal Clinical Affiliation agreements for participating nursing education programs. Facilitates comprehensive student clearance processes, manages placement availability, and coordinates clinical preceptorship and mentorship experiences. Requirements:
