Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated Surgery Coordinator to join our healthcare team, providing essential support in surgical scheduling, patient coordination, and administrative management. The ideal candidate will facilitate seamless communication between patients, medical staff, and insurance providers, ensuring that all surgical procedures are organized efficiently and in compliance with healthcare regulations. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to high-quality patient care through meticulous documentation, effective scheduling, and comprehensive administrative support. The Surgery Coordinator plays a vital role in maintaining operational excellence within our surgical services department. Responsibilities Coordinate surgical schedules by collaborating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing staff, and patients to ensure timely procedures. Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance authorization and verification processes. Prepare and review medical documentation, including care plans, consent forms, and pre-operative assessments. Manage patient intake processes, including collecting medical history and ensuring all necessary documentation is complete. Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth to input and update patient information accurately. Assist with billing processes by understanding CPT coding, ICD-10/ICD-9 coding standards, and medical billing procedures. Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient information during all administrative activities. Facilitate communication between patients and medical teams via phone etiquette and professional correspondence. Review medical records for accuracy and completeness prior to procedures or billing submissions. Support front desk operations including appointment scheduling, patient check-in/out, and managing multi-line phone systems. Ensure proper documentation review for procedural coding accuracy and insurance reimbursement. Requirements Proven experience in surgical coding Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, eClinicalWorks, or Athenahealth. Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), and Medicare guidelines. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation review and data entry. Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) Ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations; bilingual skills in Spanish required. Prior experience with insurance verification, billing processes, and health information management. Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information confidentially in compliance with HIPAA standards. Exceptional customer service skills combined with professional phone etiquette.
