Job Description

The Respiratory Therapy Program Director at the University of Michigan-Flint is responsible for the leadership, administration, and management of the University's Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy (BSRT) program. The Director ensures the program's quality, compliance with accreditation standards, curriculum development, and the professional growth of faculty and students. The Program Director plays a key role in maintaining academic excellence, promoting student success, and ensuring the program aligns with the latest industry standards and healthcare trends. Responsibilities included, but not limited to: Program Leadership Provide vision and leadership to the Respiratory Therapy program, ensuring it meets the strategic goals of the University and healthcare industry standards Oversee curriculum development and ensure that courses reflect current practices, technologies, and trends in respiratory care Lead program accreditation efforts, including preparation of accreditation reports and ensuring compliance with the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) or other accrediting bodies Academic and Curriculum Oversight Faculty Supervision and Development Student Success and Advisement Develop and implement student recruitment plan Promote student retention, graduation, and licensure success by providing academic and career advising Oversee student engagement efforts for both current and prospective students with a focus on recruitment initiatives Facilitate student engagement and involvement in professional respiratory therapy organizations Facilitate and lead the student honor society (Lambda Beta) by providing mentorship, guidance, and oversight Support and mentor students in capstone development, implementation, and successful completion of capstone projects Administrative Duties Develop and implement strategic recruitment and marketing initiatives to promote the academic program, which includes attending recruitment events Coordinate course offerings in collaboration with the Department Director Acquire and maintain articulation agreements with area community colleges, which includes negotiating terms, aligning curricula, and ensuring agreements meet institutional and accreditation standards Collaborate with the Department Director to develop and implement strategic plans for program growth and enhancement Provide regular written updates and reports to the Department Director on the progress of the program Convene and lead the program advisory board by organizing regular meetings, setting the agenda, and facilitating discussions Maintain effective communication with board members and integrate their feedback into program development and continuous improvement efforts Community and Industry Engagement Principal Faculty Teaching Teach both on-campus and online in the BSRT program. Scholarship Maintain personal scholarship according to the College of Health Sciences (CHS) scholarship requirements for clinical-track faculty. Clinical-track faculty are required to have an active research agenda and may achieve this by working with other faculty. Scholarly work is expected to make a contribution to, and an impact on, the profession/field/discipline, to interdisciplinary areas, and/or to pedagogical endeavors. Service All CHS faculty members are expected to provide service to the University, college, department, profession, and the community. Consistent with the mission of CHS and the University, professional service contributions to the Flint and regional community are valued as well as national and international contributions. Engagement in service activities at multiple levels is required. The quality and impact of service contributions are more important than the number of different service activities. Qualifications Required Qualifications Master's degree in any field Active credentials as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) OR be a physician (Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)) Have a current professional license or certification unless exempted from licensure under state or federal law A minimum of four (4) years of experience as an RRT or Physician (MD or DO) At least two (2) years must include experience in clinical respiratory care, pulmonary medicine, cardiothoracic surgery, critical care, anesthesiology, healthcare administration, healthcare research, or a subject area directly related to the degree conferred; and At least two (2) years of teaching experience in at least one of the following areas: clinical respiratory care, research, or healthcare Desired Qualifications Previous administrative or leadership experience in an academic program in healthcare management or healthcare education Experience with Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accreditation processes
