JOB SUMMARY
The Supervisor
  • Operating Room/Surgery at North Mississippi Medical Center is responsible for coordinating staffing and assignments in the operating rooms based on patient and specialty-specific needs.
They act as a resource person for supplies, equipment, procedures, and surgeon preferences and evaluate the performance of staff members. Additionally, they ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and work closely with the director to revise policies and procedures. As a supervisor, this role oversees and guides a team of employees to ensure efficient task completion, promoting teamwork and effective coordination.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Supervisory:
Relief duties as needed for O.R. Clinical Director and/or other members of leadership team during the twenty-four-hour shift. Covers late/call assignments as needed to cover case needs of department. Coordinates staffing and assignments of operating rooms based on patient and specialty-specific needs of the O.R. Prepares, prioritizes, and submits budget requests to O.R. Director. Negotiate products with vendors. Acts as a resource person regarding supplies, equipment, procedures, and surgeon preferences. Delegates tasks to staff such as assembling instruments, supplies, equipment, and organizing and stocking of operating rooms. Evaluate and coach performance of each staff member.
Liaison:
Coordinates scheduling needs and alterations with CRNA and Anesthesiologist in charge.
Customer Service:
Monitors customer service through assessment and evaluation. Recommends and implements actions for improving. Patient population to be served ranges from neonate, pediatrics, adolescent, adult and geriatric.
Regulatory Knowledge:
Understands and ensures regulatory and code compliance (JCAHO, OSHA, EPA, State Licensing).
QUALIFICATIONS
Education Associate's Degree Nursing. Required High School Diploma or GED Equivalent . Required Licenses and Certifications RN
  • Registered Nurse
  • State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure. Registered Nurse currently licensed in Mississippi. Upon Hire. Required CNOR
  • Certified Operating Room Nurse.
. Upon Hire. Preferred Work Experience 1-3 years. Minimum of two years O.R. experience. Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities Must have knowledge of surgical procedures, aseptic technique, standards of care, hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Must possess good communication skills. The incumbent must have strong communication skills and reflect a positive, caring attitude toward staff, physicians, physician's clinical staff, and other customers. Show compassion and respect with patients, be accountable and perform acts of service recovery with patients/family when appropriate. Interact responsibly and effectively with other entities, both within and outside of the organization. This position will provide coaching and/or counseling to staff as needed to improve their individual job performance. Must be able to function effectively on an independent level as well as within a team or group.
