Job Description

Activity Coordinator - Adult Day Health Overview Stanly Adult Care Center, Inc. is seeking an Activity Coordinator to join our Adult Day Health team in Albemarle, NC. We are looking for an individual who enjoys working with older adults and has experience developing and leading engaging group activities that promote socialization, cognitive stimulation, physical wellness, and quality of life. Our center offers a warm, supportive atmosphere where staff work closely together to provide exceptional care and meaningful experiences for participants. The successful candidate will be a team player with strong leadership skills, creativity, and a genuine passion for serving older adults. Experience working with older adults in a senior center, adult day health program, assisted living facility, nursing home, rehabilitation setting, or similar geriatric environment is required. Duties Develop, plan, and facilitate a variety of therapeutic and recreational activities tailored to participants' interests, abilities, and goals. Coordinate special events, outings, educational programs, and community engagement opportunities. Assist participants with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as mobility, grooming, personal care, and eating when needed. Monitor participants during activities and report concerns to nursing staff or supervisors. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support individualized care plans and participant goals. Create and maintain monthly activity calendars. Maintain activity documentation and participation records. Assist with volunteer coordination and activity preparation. Provide leadership and direction to Activity Assistants, volunteers, students, and interns as assigned. Serve as acting Program Director when designated. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Human Services, Gerontology, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Social Work, Education, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience leading group activities for older adults in an adult day health program, senior center, assisted living facility, nursing home, rehabilitation setting, memory care program, or similar geriatric environment. Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience, including directing staff, volunteers, students, interns, or program operations. Experience working with older adults who have chronic health conditions, disabilities, cognitive impairment, or age-related challenges. CPR and First Aid Certification required or ability to obtain within required timeframe. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong group leadership and public speaking skills. Ability to engage adults with varying physical, cognitive, and social abilities. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to develop meaningful activities that promote social, cognitive, emotional, and physical wellness. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the healthcare team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications Certified Activity Director (ADC) or willingness to pursue certification. Experience in Adult Day Health. Experience developing therapeutic programming for adults with chronic health conditions, mild dementia, Parkinson's disease, stroke recovery, diabetes, heart disease, COPD, or general aging-related challenges. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and participate in activities throughout the day. Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
