Job Description
SCOPE OF WORK
The Tribal Health Director provides executive leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for all Tribal health programs and services operating underP.L. 93-638
(Master Health Contract) contracts and other funding sources. This position ensures that health programs meet community needs, comply with federal and Tribal regulations, and support the Tribe's mission to improve the physical, mental, and social well-being of its members while supporting the Tribe's cultural values and traditional approaches to wellness. The Director serves as the primary liaison between the Tribe, the Indian Health Service (IHS), state and federal health agencies, and other partners to strengthen and expand health care services across the reservation. This position oversees the following programs including but not limited to: Community Health Representative (CHR) program, Treatment program, Health Education, Environmental Health, Ambulance, Wellness/Suicide Prevention, Elderly Protection, Tribal Care Coordination, and Third Party Communications and Data.KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide overall leadership, supervision, and administrative oversight of Tribal health programs, ensuring compliance, quality service delivery, and effective program performance. Oversee fiscal management, including budgeting, expenditure tracking, financial reporting, and maintaining internal controls to ensure accountability and compliance with funding requirements. Lead strategic planning and implementation aligned with Tribal priorities, using data and community input to guide program development and health initiatives. Evaluate program performance and health service needs, implementing improvements to address gaps, emerging trends, and community priorities. Ensure integration of cultural values and traditional health practices into all programs, promoting culturally appropriate and holistic approaches to care. Manage contracts and grants, including compliance monitoring, reporting, and development of funding proposals to sustain and expand services. Serve as a key liaison and communicator with Tribal leadership, community members, and external partners, fostering collaboration and advancing Tribal health priorities.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Business Administration, or a related field Minimum of five (7) years of progressive experience in health program management and supervision of health programs and employees, preferably in a Tribal or public health setting.
