Job Description

Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Administrative Director of the Health Professions Office. The Administrative Director for the Health Professions Office ( HPO ) is responsible for providing overall leadership and direction for all aspects regarding students interested in attending medical, osteopathic, dental, optometry, physician assistant, chiropractic, and podiatric schools. These students come from all undergraduate and graduate units in New Brunswick, as well as our alumni population. In addition to being the sole full-time advisor, the Director develops advising initiatives that serve the students from their orientation through graduation and as alumni. The Director anticipates complex functional needs and develops recommendations and solutions for problems, policies, and services that meet the needs of this diverse population while coordinating with the priorities of the overall University. Among the key duties of this position are the following: Supervises professional, support and student staff and designs and coordinates all efforts relating to pre-health advising for approximately 3,000 students. Develops collaborative and strategic alliances with internal constituents, such as individual Academic departments, Student Life, Academic Engagement, Deans of Students, Registrar, Career Services, Financial Aid and the Foundation and external agencies such as the American Association of Medical Colleges, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, the American Dental Education Association, the National Association of Advisors in the Health Professions, St. Peter's University Hospital, and Princeton HealthCare System toward the goal of best practices and enhancing the experience of prehealth students. Maintains and enhances school and college-wide leadership capabilities in her capacity as resident authority on prehealth student issues. Provides leadership for university-wide initiatives by serving collaboratively and forging strategic alliances to accomplish university goals; these initiatives include leadership on joint program committees and collaboration with many university offices (Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, New Jersey Medical School, New Jersey School of Dental Medicine, the School of Health Related Professions Physician Assistant Program, Department of Alumni Relations, and the Office of Academic Affairs, etc.). Provides overall leadership and direction for all functions of the Health Professions Office on Busch Campus, anticipating complex functional needs and providing solutions to serve the students who seek advising in regard to academics and extra-curricular activities to enhance admissions portfolios for admissions to health programs. Provides leadership and supervision for professional and clerical staff, as well as graduate and undergraduate mentors and facilitates appropriate policy questions and adjudication and the smooth running of day-to day office functions. Oversees budget and office payroll. Functions as a seasoned professional with strong organizational, communication, problem solving and decision-making abilities in a complex, diverse environment.
Minimum Education and Experience:
A minimum of a Master's degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience in academic affairs setting.
