Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Clinical Director to lead and enhance clinical operations across our Behavioral Health programs. This senior leadership role is responsible for providing strategic direction, clinical oversight, and operational excellence to ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care for individuals with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders. The Senior Program Director collaborates closely with Clinical Directors, interdisciplinary teams, and executive leadership to drive program innovation, improve patient outcomes, and support organizational growth. Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Supervision Provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to Clinical Directors and senior clinical staff across multiple programs Ensure staff adherence to ethical, legal, and professional standards Oversee staffing models and resource allocation to meet clinical needs Deliver or ensure weekly clinical supervision (minimum one hour per week per clinician; group supervision not exceeding 50%) Lead staff orientation, ongoing training, and performance evaluations Support staff professional development and continuing education Program Development & Implementation Design, implement, and enhance innovative clinical programs and services Lead initiatives to improve clinical outcomes and reduce recidivism Collaborate with administrative, quality, and operational teams to improve care delivery and efficiency Quality Assurance & Compliance Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., DOH, DMHAS, CARF, JCAHO) Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and quality assurance programs Monitor program performance through data collection, audits, and outcome evaluation Conduct regular reviews of clinical documentation, treatment plans, and case files Clinical Oversight Provide guidance on complex or high-risk cases Oversee individualized treatment planning and service delivery Ensure use of evidence-based practices across programs Ensure coordination of care across services for continuity Verify that co-occurring disorder treatment is delivered by appropriately trained staff Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement Partner with healthcare providers, insurers, and community organizations Advocate for patient-centered care and integrated behavioral health services Represent the organization at external meetings, forums, and professional events Data Analysis & Reporting Oversee data collection, analysis, and reporting on clinical outcomes and program effectiveness Use data to inform strategy, quality improvement, and resource allocation Prepare reports for leadership, funders, and regulatory agencies Financial Management Support budget development and financial oversight for clinical programs Monitor expenditures and promote cost-effective operations Identify opportunities for growth, program expansion, and increased census Training & Development Develop and implement staff training on evidence-based practices and clinical standards Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth QualificationsEducation & Licensure Master's or Doctoral degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Nursing, or a related field Active New Jersey licensure (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, Psychologist, LCADC, APN, or Physician) Must meet NJ requirements for clinical supervision in substance use treatment, including one of the following: LCADC Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) or equivalent ASAM-certified physician or board-certified psychiatrist APA Certificate of Proficiency (for psychologists) Experience Minimum 8 years of clinical experience, including 5+ years in leadership/supervisory roles Experience managing behavioral health and/or substance use treatment programs Strong knowledge of state and federal regulations and accreditation standards Skills & Competencies Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills Strong clinical judgment and decision-making abilities Experience with EHR systems and clinical documentation tools Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced environments Commitment to culturally competent, patient-centered care Working Conditions Full-time position; on-site Occasional evenings/weekends based on program needs Travel within New Jersey required On-call availability for emergencies may be required Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary based on experience Comprehensive benefits package (health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off) Professional development opportunities Performance-based bonus eligibility
