Job Description
The Assistant Director of Perioperative Services (RN) provides direct clinical and operational oversight of Registered Nurses, Surgical Technologists, and perioperative support staff across inpatient and ambulatory surgical services. This role partners with the AVP of Perioperative Services to ensure consistent standards of nursing practice, staff competency, regulatory compliance, and efficient perioperative operations. The Assistant Director functions as a clinical and operational leader, serving as a liaison among nursing leadership, administration, medical staff, and ancillary departments to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, patient centered perioperative care.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational & Clinical Leadership Assists in directing and overseeing daily operations of perioperative services to ensure safe, efficient, and high'quality patient care Provides clinical leadership and supports perioperative nursing and support staff in alignment with professional standards and organizational goals Ensures effective coordination of perioperative workflows across operating rooms, nursing units, and ancillary departments Participates in strategic planning, service line development, and performance improvement initiatives Staff Leadership & Development Supervises, mentors, trains, disciplines, and evaluates the performance of perioperative staff Assists with recruitment, onboarding, competency validation, and ongoing staff development Supports staffing decisions, scheduling oversight, and resource allocation to meet operational demands Promotes staff engagement, accountability, and professional growth Quality, Safety & Regulatory Compliance Ensures compliance with hospital policies, professional nursing standards, and regulatory requirements Oversees infection prevention, environmental safety, and patient safety initiatives within perioperative services Monitors and ensures staff compliance with competencies, certifications, and mandatory education requirements Participates in audits, tracers, and accreditation readiness activities Equipment, Supplies & Environment Oversees the availability, storage, and proper handling of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies Collaborates with materials management and leadership to ensure adequate inventory and cost'effective utilization Ensures cleanliness, organization, and safety of perioperative work areas Communication & Collaboration Serves as an operational liaison between perioperative staff, nursing leadership, physicians, and administration Communicates effectively with interdisciplinary teams to resolve operational issues and promote continuous improvement Represents perioperative services in hospital committees, meetings, and initiatives as assignedEXPERIENCE
Minimum 7 years' experience with 3-5 years of progressive perioperative nursing experience, required Previous leadership or management experience in perioperative services, required Demonstrated experience with operational oversight, staff management, and regulatory complianceEDUCATION
Associates of Science in Nursing, required; Bachelors in Nursing, preferred.LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State, required Basic Life Support (BLS), required CNOR or other perioperative specialty certification, preferred OTHER Strong clinical knowledge of perioperative services and standards of care Demonstrated leadership, decision'making, and problem'solving skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage complex operations in a fast'paced, high'stress environment Proficiency with electronic health records and Microsoft Office applications Strong commitment to quality, safety, customer service, and staff developmentSimilar jobs in Kingston, NY
