Inpatient Recreation Coordinator 7 Route 25a, Smithtown, NY 11787 $22.50 - $24.00 an hour - Part-time $22.50 - $24.00 an hour - Part-time Overview We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Inpatient Recreation Coordinator to lead engaging therapeutic activities within inpatient healthcare settings. This role is vital in enhancing patient well-being through tailored recreational programs that promote physical, emotional, and social health. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm, creativity, and a deep understanding of diverse therapeutic modalities to foster a supportive environment for individuals with various health conditions. This paid position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patients' recovery journeys while working alongside a dedicated healthcare team. This is a per diem position, that will be between 15 hours, and 35 hours weekly depending on the need. Duties Develop and implement individualized and group recreational therapy programs that incorporate music therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, yoga, and other modalities to support patients' mental and physical health. Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to identify needs related to dementia care, Alzheimer's care, PTSD care, autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, geriatrics, hospice care, pediatrics, and special education. Facilitate therapeutic activities designed to improve behavioral management, social skills, cognitive function, and emotional resilience across diverse patient populations. Collaborate with healthcare professionals such as nurses, social workers, case managers, and therapists to coordinate care plans and ensure activities align with medical documentation standards and HIPAA regulations. Maintain accurate medical records and documentation of patient progress, intake evaluations, activity participation, and behavioral responses using appropriate medical terminology. Manage crisis situations effectively through behavioral health strategies and crisis management protocols to ensure patient safety at all times. Collect data on activity outcomes and patient engagement levels to inform program improvements and support diagnostic evaluations. Experience Proven experience in recreational therapy within inpatient or assisted living environments; home & community care experience is highly valued. Strong background working with individuals with medical disabilities, including, dementia patients, and seniors. Knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, HIPAA compliance, and patient assessment techniques. Familiarity with therapeutic modalities such as music therapy, dance therapy, art therapy, yoga, equine-assisted activities or similar approaches aimed at mental health counseling and behavioral therapy. Experience in working with children as well as adult populations across various healthcare settings including hospice or palliative care environments. Ability to manage crisis situations with professionalism while demonstrating excellent communication skills for individual/group counseling sessions. Physical ability to participate in activities like dancing or swimming; comfort working in active environments that may involve assisting patients with mobility or safety needs.
