As an Organ Recovery Coordinator (ORC), you will play a pivotal role in managing the organ donation process from referral to recovery, ensuring that every donor is cared for with respect, compassion, and expertise. You will work closely with medical professionals, donor families, and transplant teams to bring hope and healing to those in need. This is a critical role that demands clinical excellence, emotional intelligence, and an unwavering commitment to our mission of saving and enhancing lives through organ, tissue and eye donation. Considerable travel required Considerable on-call responsibility
Key Responsibilities:
Donor ReferralEvaluation Collaborate with hospital staff and Network for Hope colleagues to evaluate potential organ donors for suitability, reviewing medical histories, lab data, and family dynamics. Respond promptly to donor referrals and conduct thorough medical evaluations. Coordinate healthcare personnel in the organ/tissue donation process. Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, regulations, and standards. Donor Management Oversee the medical management of potential organ donors, maintaining hemodynamic stability and improving organ system viability. Work closely with ICU and hospital staff to ensure effective donor care. Family SupportAuthorization Provide compassionate support and information to donor families, discussing organ/tissue donation opportunities in the absence of family support staff. Organ AllocationRecovery Organize and facilitate the organ recovery process, including coordinating operating room schedules and transportation logistics. Assist surgical teams during organ recovery, ensuring proper preservation and transportation. Work with transplant centers and the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) to allocate organs to suitable recipients. DocumentationCompliance Maintain accurate documentation of all activities related to the organ donation and recovery process. Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational policies and standards. Other Duties Perform Surgical Preservation Coordinator duties as needed. Coordinate the import of organs from external sources. Maintain communication with funeral homes and the coroner/medical examiner throughout the donation process. Participate in quality assurance, review initiatives, and staff education efforts. Contribute to special projects and organizational workgroups.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in health-related field preferred. Associate degree with four years' experience acceptable. RN or other healthcare licensure preferred. Exceptional candidates with significant health-care experience may also apply.
Experience:
2 years of clinical healthcare-related experience required. 1 year of experience in critical care, emergency, donation or transplant settings preferred. Licensure, Certification, and/or
Registration:
