Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS
Required :
Previous medical office experience; Medical terminology and computer experience; Positive, cheerful attitude; Team player and one who works well with others, a self starter, a flexible and caring individual; Excellent telephone skills which include pleasant telephone voice, proper telephone techniques, and correct grammar usage; Able to work in fast paced, often stressful environment, with ability to perform within standard turn around times for task completion; Participate and promote team work, be courteous to co-workers, patient/family members, physicians and residents; Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of patient information; Accuracy and attention to detail, ability to prioritize and organize work demands. .
Preferred :
ICD-9, CPT
coding experience; Knowledge of operations of fax, copy machine, and other small business machines; Bilingual and referral authorization, and Rx refill experience.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
Medium physical/mental capabilities required. Must be able to work independently as well as with physicians, patients/family members and other co-workers courteously. Must be able to prioritize work demands and organize time efficiently. Must be clear thinking. Able to work with time constraints, high stress situations and multiple tasks. Must be able to walk/maneuver frequently in and around clinic building and occasionally handle multiple telephone lines. Excellent problem solving skills required. Must have high degree of accuracy with alphabet. Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions with accuracy. Must also possess hand/eye coordination skills sufficient to sort small pieces of paper and file folders adequately.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Receives and processes referrals to specialist providers. Verifies patient insurance eligibility with payers. Tracks and maintains referral spreadsheet. Communicates with insurance agencies while seeking referral authorizations. Communicates information regarding referral and appointment status to patient. Obtains pre-authorizations from insurance companies for services provided at Cascades East as well as for referrals. Research and locate specialists out of area as needed for referrals. Receives and routes telephone calls to appropriate staff when necessary. Maintains competency in all position responsibilities. Loads copy machine and printer paper; changes toner and fixes jams.
