Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the guidance and supervision of the Branch Executive Director, the Health & Wellness Director is responsible for the organization, delivery and quality of YMCA fitness/exercise program(s) to the membership, program participants and community. In addition, the Health & Wellness Director is responsible for administrative tasks as they relate to program , budgeting, committee involvement, staff supervision and mentoring, collaborative community efforts, facilities and equipment, campaign involvement, grants, sponsorships and planning.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Oversee planning, development and delivery of the Health and Wellness Programs and initiatives, which include, but are not limited to: Small Group Training, Personal Training, Chronic Disease Prevention/Management Programs, and Group Exercise. Provide the leadership necessary to advance the mission of the organization and is responsible for the development, instruction, retention, maintenance, and staffing of all health and wellness functions at the YMCA. Works closely with the Group Exercise Coordinator to implement the schedule of Group Exercise programming to best serve the membership demographic, making format or instructor changes when necessary. Hire, train, supervise and evaluate all health & wellness staff, work-study, and volunteers as programs/offerings dictate and budget guidelines allow. Work harmoniously as a team member, ensuring equitable division of time and resources between all programs serving our members in this department and role-modeling a flexible, adaptive mindset as well as a positive attitude. Ensure that schedules for programs and activities are planned and communicated in a timely and efficient manner. Assist in the planning and development of the annual departmental budget. Provide managerial oversight for all department budgets and ensure that the financial health of the YMCA is supported by appropriate decision-making. Work to ensure a risk-free environment, i.e., caution regarding unsafe practices and conditions. Report accidents and injuries and complete incident reports. Manages daily operations of the Fitness areas including scheduling, coverage, and member engagement, fitness challenges, cleanliness, and equipment management. Creates, develops, and maintains a personal training department that focuses on sales, revenue growth, and member retention that meets or exceeds revenue goals with quality, certified personal trainers. Personally acts as a personal trainer and/or small group instructor to lead own classes, and the ability to fill-in as needed. Effectively utilizes Listen First skills and relationship building skills. Maintains current certifications (personal training, Chronic Disease Program Instructor, etc.) and stays up to date with industry trends. Actively participates in management team meetings and committees as assigned. Assists in all YMCA activities and special events as needed. Actively supports the YMCA Annual Campaign under the direction of the CEO and Branch Executive Director. Complete and approve payroll for your department as outlined in the payroll guidelines. Work closely with the Communications Coordinator on marketing/promotions to ensure consistent messaging around the Y as a cause-driven charitable organization. Have a complete, up to date, child care file. All other duties as assigned by the Branch Executive Director. Is a liaison to Joint Venture staff for Community Health offerings.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or similar field preferred. A previous knowledge and experience of personal training and/or small group fitness programming. Certified in CPR/AED and First Aid. Personal training certification required, or ability to attain. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work with team members and interact with members and event participants/parents. Must be compassionate, professional and empathetic to all staff and participants. Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse History Clearance and a FBI Criminal History Check required. Must be available to accommodate clientele schedules.
Pay:
$45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
