Description
Position Summary The Child Nutrition Service Leader is responsible for coordinating all food service operations, maintaining a safe and sanitary kitchen environment, supporting site-wide health and safety practices, and ensuring classrooms are fully stocked with necessary supplies. This position plays a vital role in maintaining compliance with food program regulations, health and safety standards, and daily center operations. The Child Nutrition Service Leader also assists with classroom coverage and collaborates with staff to support a safe, healthy, and organized learning environment for children and employees. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Food Program Administration
Maintain all records and documentation required for participation in food program, including but not limited to enrollment forms, meal counts, re-determination forms, and other required documentation.
Ensure compliance with all applicable food program guidelines and regulations.
Order food, beverages, snacks, paper goods, cleaning products, and kitchen supplies as needed.
Maintain organized food inventory and monitor product usage and expiration dates. Kitchen Operations and Sanitation
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment at all times.
Clean and sanitize counters, tables, sinks, and food preparation areas daily.
Sweep and maintain kitchen floors daily; complete deep cleaning of kitchen floors, refrigerators, and freezers regularly.
Ensure all food is prepared, handled, and stored according to health and safety regulations and ServSafe standards.
Follow proper handwashing, glove use, sanitation, and food handling procedures.
Ensure all kitchen equipment is maintained in safe working condition and report maintenance concerns promptly.
Remove trash daily and maintain proper waste disposal procedures.
Wash, dry, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
Prepare and distribute meals, snacks, beverages, and water pitchers to classrooms daily.
Retrieve meal carts, dishes, and food service items from classrooms following meals. Classroom and Facility Supply Coordination
Ensure classrooms, are stocked daily with necessary supplies, including paper products, and other meal necessities.
Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs to administration in a timely manner.
Support teachers and classrooms by ensuring requested materials and supplies are available when needed. Meal Preparation, Distribution, and Food Safety
Coordinate the preparation and distribution of pre-prepared ("heat and serve") meals and snacks according to daily attendance and classroom meal counts.
Heat and serve meals in accordance with food safety regulations, temperature requirements, and vendor instructions.
Organize, label, and deliver meals, beverages, and snacks accurately to each classroom.
Ensure classrooms receive the correct quantity of food items based on daily attendance and food program requirements.
Maintain accurate meal count records and communicate attendance changes as needed.
Ensure compliance with all documented food allergies, dietary restrictions, medical meal plans, and special nutritional accommodations for children.
Verify that allergy-safe meals / substitutions are properly identified and delivered to the appropriate children/classrooms.
Collaborate with classroom staff and administration to maintain a safe eating environment for all children.
Monitor food temperatures, storage, and handling procedures to maintain health and safety standards. Health, Safety, and Facility Responsibilities
Maintain sanitary conditions throughout the facility, as related to nutrition services.
Conduct daily health and safety inspections, including playground and outdoor safety checks.
Report damaged equipment, safety concerns, or maintenance issues immediately.
Complete monthly site safety reviews and required compliance documentation.
Monitor medication expiration dates and ensure allergy and asthma action plans are current and properly maintained. Professional Responsibilities
Maintain current ServSafe Certification.
Maintain all required state and local clearances, certifications, and training requirements.
Complete required annual professional development hours.
Maintain current certification in: Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and Fire Safety. Classroom Support Responsibilities
Provide classroom coverage as needed, including staff lunch breaks and emergency coverage.
Support classroom routines while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor with children and staff.
Assist with maintaining a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment. Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience in food service, child care, or facility operations preferred.
Ability to lift, carry, and transport food, supplies, and equipment.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced early childhood environment. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry up to 40 pounds regularly.
Ability to work in kitchen and classroom environments.
Ability to safely operate kitchen and cleaning equipment.
