Summary:
With guidance from the Systems Director and Associate Clinical Director, this position will review infusion therapy orders to ensure that a drug is prescribed in accordance with regulatory guidelines. This position will collaborate with providers referring for infusion therapy so orders are processed expeditiously while maintaining regulatory compliance. They will work closely with insurance carriers to make sure they have all appropriate clinical information in order to authorize the service. They will coordinate peer to peer discussions and will gather as much clinical information in advance to expedite the process.
Responsibilities:
Infusion Drug Evaluation/Authorization—Utilize clinical knowledge and experience to evaluate infusion orders to ensure regulatory compliance
Performance Expectations:
Performs clinical review of new infusion orders to determine request meets established guidelines. Triage all infusion orders based on established criteria. Orders that are FDA approved will be forwarded for financial approval non-FDA approved uses will be evaluated against national oncology guidelines. Any drug that falls outside of national oncology guidelines will be discussed with clinical team. Keeps up to date on all changes involving infusion therapy drugs by researching FDA, NCCN and other relevant websites Ensures strict adherence to established quality control measures Ensures strict adherence to established infusion guidelines and serves as point of contact when clinicians are questioning the status of a drug's addition to these guidelines. Financial Clearance Process—Oversees the entire financial clearance process for infusion drugs from beginning to end
Performance Expectations:
Works with clinical information systems staff to develop and maintain an online authorization form Ensures that new drugs are added to the form in a timely fashion and that communications are sent hospital-wide when new drugs have been added for clearance Ensures that orders do not go through without financial clearance Assists with all audits. Connects provider teams and insurance companies to facilitate peer to peer review for denials Information Management—Maintains proficiency in all departmental and institutional applications and makes recommendations as needed.
Performance Expectations:
Recommends changes in data collection and reports to better monitor productivity and other operational measures Works with systems analysts to enhance system and improve functionality to meet evolving needs of the program Communicates with clinical team to ensure timely submission of clinical documentation to the insurance company for authorizations Provides clinical information to outside agencies while maintaining HIPAA compliance Obtains written authorizations from insurance companies Maintains infusion service dashboards and metrics Leads scheduled staff meetings and coordinates in-service programs
Credentials:
Registered Nurse - PA (Required) Registered Nurse (PA) and obtain NJ within 6 months of hire Chemotherapy Biotherapy (Required)
ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification Oncology Certified RN Cert RN Infusion Education or Equivalent Experience:
Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
Education Specialization:
BSN Equivalent Experience:
•And 3+ years 3-5 years oncology or infusion experience required
Master of Arts or Science Education Specialization:
MSN Equivalent Experience:
