THE ORGANIZATION
Mediation & Restorative Services (MARS) is a community-based, non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization. Since 1987, MARS has been helping families, neighborhoods, schools, landlords, tenants, businesses, consumers, manage and resolve conflict through education and conflict resolution services. Professionally trained and supervised volunteer mediators assist individuals and communities to successfully resolve problems and disputes on their own using alternative dispute resolution methods. MARS is proud of its high quality, volunteer mediator panels, its effective partnerships with area government and nonprofit organizations, and the high level of community and donor support received by the organization. MISSION The mission of MARS is to provide accessible, affordable mediation and restorative services to help people in Anoka County and neighboring communities resolve their own conflicts and repair harm.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Restorative Justice Coordinator will provide comprehensive and culturally competent restorative justice support to MARS key partners and collaborative partners designed to ensure their success, reduce disproportionate social determinants, and promote positive climate and culture. Provide restorative justice services for pre-charge and post-charge diversion as referred by the Anoka County Attorney's Office. Provide restorative practice services within the various schools throughout Anoka County and surrounding areas. This position provides research, professional development, and support to administrators, teachers, community partners, court staff and support staff. They perform a full range of leadership duties and responsibilities by supporting schools as they work to uphold the tenets of Restorative Justice.
SUPERVISION AND CONTROLS OVER THE WORK
The Restorative Justice Coordinator works under the day-to-day direction of the Executive Director. The Restorative Justice Coordinator also works in collaboration with the MARS collaborative partners. The Restorative Justice Coordinator is responsible for being familiar with court/school/district policies and procedures which govern their work and their interaction with court personnel, students, teachers, parents, and community members.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Support implementation of a Restorative Justice framework in schools/community/courts. 2. Provide restorative support for identified schools, staff and volunteers as needed. 3. Provide facilitation and support services for escalated cases as needed. 4. Work collaboratively with administrators, district office staff, and other building level staff. 5. Provide support at RJ trainings. 6. Create and update new and existing RJ support materials. 7. Create new professional development materials/agendas. 8. Deliver professional development and coaching for RJ participants. 9. Serve as a spokesperson for Restorative Practices in MARS. Align Restorative Practices with the organization's values, mission, equity stance, and strategic plan. 10. Initiate, promote and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, guardians, staff, admin, and community partners. 11. Develop tracking and accountability systems for schools, review progress, and support improvement. 12. Review and screen referrals for all restorative services 13. Effectively collaborate with the inter-disciplinary diversion team or school team. This team consists of, but is not limited to, agents of the County Attorney's office, Corrections, and the Principal, Deans and support staff. 14.Provide accurate reporting and tracking of all data.
SUPPORT RESTORATIVE INTERVENTION AND PREVENTION PRACTICES AT SCHOOL SITES BY
Facilitate restorative conferencing as an alternative to traditional discipline and re-entry. Document and support RP practices throughout the school district through site visits, interviews with staff, administrators, students, parents and school-community partners. Offer Restorative Practices trainings and professional development. Assist school-site Leadership teams in their development of an individualized school-wide RP implementation plan based on the unique needs of their site. Work with school sites to develop RP lead persons, or leadership teams who take the lead in promoting and building RP practices and culture shift at their respective school sites. Model problem solving strategies with teaching staff and student support service teams in bringing together members of the school community who were impacted by harmful behavior. Partner with site student support teams to review or alter systems in place to support counseling protocol and strategies around restorative practices. Provide one-on-one consulting with interested teachers and school staff in need of additional support around the implementation of RP. Partner with peer resources, teachers, or student support staff to offer RP intro workshops.
SUPPORT RESTORATIVE JUSTICE DIVERSION FOR JUVENILE CORRECTIONS AND VICTIM WITNESS PROGRAM AT THE ANOKA COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER
To develop, participate in and manage a program of victim-oriented restorative mediation for general crime matters involving adults and juveniles in both pre-charge and post-charge programs and the accompanying case management activities. Provide Victims who contact the Anoka County Attorney's Victim/Witness Services program (ACVWP) with information about restorative mediation. Review general criminal cases and at the appropriate time and circumstances contact victims with information about the potential for mediation. The target number is a minimum of thirteen victim contacts per quarter calendar year. Other Duties Oversee the Restorative Practice program. Assist in in the onboard and management of RP interns. Build relationships within the schools and create pathways for direct referrals prior to police involvement. Respond to referrals from ACAO, Juvenile Corrections, Victim Witness, Anoka County Schools and handle them accordingly. Offer support, update forms, maintain a strong working relationship, and inform of program updates. Provide victim support services. Participate and present, when appropriate, at quarterly peer group meetings. Engage in RP professional development. Case management of all RP referrals. Coordinate efforts of RP volunteers. Other duties as assigned.
