Job Details The College of Health and Human Performance Program at Coastal Carolina University is developing a Doctor of Physical Therapy program and invites applications for a full-time, 9-month Director of Clinical Education ( DCE ) of Physical Therapy at an academic rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure-track), Assistant or Associate Clinical Professor (non-tenure track), commensurate with experience in teaching and scholarship. The DCE provides leadership, coordination, and oversight of all aspects of the clinical education component of the DPT program, ensuring students receive high-quality clinical experiences in full compliance with Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education ( CAPTE ) standards. The DCE reports to and works under the supervision of the DPT Program Director and collaborates closely with faculty, staff, and clinical partners to promote excellence in both integrated and full-time clinical education experiences. This core faculty appointment carries administrative, academic, scholarly, and service responsibilities that advance the program's mission and uphold the highest standards in clinical education. The DCE will play a vital role in coordinating and advancing clinical education within the DPT curriculum — collaborating with clinical partners, faculty, and students to ensure excellence in clinical placements, foster strong community relationships, and promote high-quality experiential learning.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership in planning, developing, coordinating, and managing all aspects of the clinical education program, including both integrated and full-time clinical education experiences.
- Secure and assess sufficient quality, quantity, and variety of clinical sites for student placement, consistent with the goals of the DPT curriculum.
- Manage and monitor clinical site agreements and compliance documentation, including Memorandums of Agreement (MOAs), Certificates of Insurance (COIs), immunization records, background checks, and Clinical Instructor (CI) credentials.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures governing all clinical education experiences.
- Develop new clinical partnerships and strengthen existing relationships with clinical facilities to support program growth and regional health workforce development.
- Teach assigned courses within the DPT curriculum, with preference for expertise in neuromuscular, orthopedic, and/or acute care practice settings, Establish and maintain a scholarly agenda consistent with Coastal Carolina University's mission, CAPTE expectations, and contributions to the physical therapy profession.
Required Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate required: Doctor of Physical Therapy ( DPT ), PT/PhD, PT/EdD, PT/DSc, or tDPT.
- Current, active, and unencumbered physical therapy licensure in the United States; eligibility for or current licensure in South Carolina required.
- Active membership in the American Physical Therapy Association ( APTA ).
- Minimum of three (3) years of full-time post-licensure clinical practice experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Site Coordinator of Clinical Education ( SCCE ) and/or Clinical Instructor in physical therapy; OR a minimum of two (2) years of experience in teaching, curriculum development, and administration within a physical therapist education program.
- Demonstrated understanding of clinical education structure, processes, and regulatory requirements, including CAPTE standards and familiarity with CAPTE accreditation
- Demonstrated commitment to developing strong academic-clinical partnerships across a variety of patient populations and practice settings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced clinical competency, such as completion of a clinical residency or fellowship, or American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties ( ABPTS ) board certification.
- Prior experience in clinical coordination, clinical site management, or
DCE / ACCE
roles.- Record of scholarly productivity and professional service commensurate with academic rank.
- Enrollment in or interest in pursuing a post-professional degree (PhD, EdD, DHSc, DSc, or ScD).
