Position Details Position Information Position Title Director for Health Services Position Number S129PD Branch Student Life (BR) Division Student Life (DIV) Department Health Services Location Jackson FLSA Exempt Job Summary The Director for Health Services/University Nurse Practitioner is a 10-month, full-time position providing health care and health education to the students, faculty, and staff of Union University. The successful candidate will have a passion for working closely with students in a fast-paced, innovative, student-centered work environment. The Director reports to the Vice President for Student Life and is responsible for the overall management, administration, and delivery of campus health services at Union University. About Union University Founded in 1823, Union University is a private, coeducational liberal arts-based university offering bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees, with a total enrollment of about 2,600. The main campus is located in Jackson, Tenn., with additional campuses in Germantown and Hendersonville. A national leader among colleges and universities in promoting a Christian worldview and a Christ-centered approach to education, Union is consistently ranked among the nation's premier Christian universities. Essential Job Duties Direct and operate Union's Health Clinic throughout the academic year (August 1 - May 15) between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:30 P.M. Plan, implement, coordinate, and manage effective health services for students, faculty, and staff. Assess the health status of students through history taking, physical examination, and identification of developmental, physical, and psychosocial problems. Triage and treat minor illnesses, injuries, and other health concerns in coordination with the university physician. Consult with off-campus collaborating physician, county health department, or other experts, as needed, for issues beyond scope of practice. Refer patients to local providers/or facilities as appropriate. Serve as a member of the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and collaborate with other campus partners to provide additional support in caring for students and provide quality health care outcomes for students' wellbeing and academic success. Assist students in identifying and utilizing resources designed to improve and maintain health. Monitor the records of incoming students for compliance with required immunizations; notify students or Enrollment Services of non-compliance and follow up until compliance is achieved. Document and maintain accurate health and immunization records for students (student-athletes, residential students, and those on clinical and practicum experiences) in a way which recognizes privacy rights and legal requirements. Conduct flu clinics each fall. Administer other immunizations (e.g. MMR) as needed by students, faculty, and staff. Maintain accurate records and account for money collected from these services. Coordinate annually with the College of Pharmacy and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences to provide TB skin tests, physicals, and flu shots as required by their programs. Perform lab tests as needed, keep accurate records, and account for all money collected. Order and maintain the inventory on all medical and pharmaceutical supplies necessary for treating students, faculty, and staff. Provide educational information on health topics to the University community through handouts, videos, displays, updated health services brochures, monthly bulletin boards, university website, etc. With the support of the Health Services clinic assistant, perform all administrative tasks related to Health Services including monthly and annual reports, formulating, implementing, and evaluating department goals, and overseeing annual budget. Participate in divisional meetings; serve on university and divisional committees as assigned; and participate in activities and projects related to student life matters. Organize a booth and participate in the annual Employee Health Fair. Assist with the orientation for new international students and missionary dependents by providing information on healthcare in the United States and their insurance coverage. Monitor the Health Services web pages periodically to ensure the accuracy of information posted there. Observe and comply with all
HIPPA/FERPA
regulations regarding treatment and health information. Maintain up-to-date Standards of Practice including: Assisting in reviewing and fulfilling requirements for nurse practitioners as directed by the state of Tennessee. Assisting in updating health policies. Assisting in updating various forms used in the Student Health Clinic Maintain professional competency through attendance at professional health related activities. Other duties as assigned. Other Job Duties Required Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with graduate-level education as a Nurse Practitioner (Adult or Family). Candidates must have AANP or ANCC certification, current registration and prescriptive privileges in the state of Tennessee, CPR Certification, and knowledge of OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen Standards. Candidates must also have excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills; the ability to handle all situations with diplomacy, confidentiality, and trust; demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity, and ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to candidates who have two years' experience in a Primary Care setting; three to five years' experience in university health services, working with college-age students, or some experience in the ambulatory care setting; phlebotomy skills; or familiarity with Title IX.
