Provide leadership and strategic direction for the district's comprehensive health services program to support student health, safety, and wellness. Oversee district nursing services, health compliance, emergency health procedures, and coordinated health initiatives to ensure high-quality services aligned with federal, state, and local requirements. Collaborate with district and campus leaders, families, and community agencies to promote safe and healthy learning environments that support student success.Qualifications:
Education and Certification Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university Master's degree in nursing, public health, health administration, or related field (preferred) Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Texas Board of Nursing Instructor certification in CPR and first aid (preferred) Certification as a state-approved screening instructor for acanthosis nigricans and spinal screening (preferred) Experience Three (3) years of experience as a public-school nurse in Texas Two (2) years of leadership or supervisory experience in nursing or health services (preferred) Knowledge and Skills Comprehensive knowledge of school health services programs, nursing practices, and applicable federal and state laws and regulations Comprehensive knowledge of communicable disease management, medication administration, emergency health procedures, and student health compliance requirements Comprehensive knowledge of coordinated school health and student wellness practices Ability to organize, direct, coordinate, and evaluate districtwide health services programs Ability to supervise personnel, manage departmental operations, and oversee budget development and expenditures Advanced organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills Advanced consultation and collaboration skills for working with district leadership, campus staff, families, and community health agencies Ability to analyze health services data and apply findings to improve program effectiveness and complianceKey Responsibilities:
Health Services Program Leadership Determine objectives and policies of health services program in collaboration with nurses and other staff. Collaborate with district-level administration to integrate health policies and practices with district priorities. Develop and coordinate ongoing evaluation of health services program and implement improvements based on findings. Recommend policies and procedures to support effective health services and program participation. Serve as a member of district committees related to student and staff health and safety, including crisis intervention, planning teams, staff wellness programs, and exposure control committees. Chair the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) and support implementation of associated programs and initiatives. Maintain current knowledge of health-related developments and communicate innovations that support continuous program improvement. Collaborate with district administrators and community members to support coordinated school health initiatives, including child nutrition, PTA, counseling services, special education, health and physical education, operations, and business office/insurance. Implement board-directed and multidisciplinary wellness policies and coordinate districtwide employee wellness programs. Coordinate with district staff regarding emergency operations planning and security audits. Nursing Services and Staff Support Ensure adequate health services coverage during absence of campus nurses by recruiting, recommending for hire, and orienting substitute nurses. Support school nurses in managing campus health service programs through consultation and on-site support. Consult with campus staff regarding student health referrals and follow-up services; collaborate with campus administrators and staff regarding student health-related needs. Perform recruiting, interviewing, selection, and training of health services personnel and make recommendations regarding placement, assignment, discipline, and dismissal in collaboration with campus principals. Serve as primary clinical evaluator for school nurses in collaboration with campus principals to support effective performance and professional growth. Serve as a resource, support, and mentor for district nursing staff. Plan and conduct professional learning, orientation, training, and certification programs for nurses; coordinate with Human Resources regarding required health-related training for district personnel. Compliance and Health Services Operations Support staff in interpreting school health policies regarding immunizations, communicable diseases, medication, and emergency care of ill and injured. Implement and ensure compliance with federal and state laws, Texas Department of State Health Services regulations, State Board of Education rules, board policy, and the Nurse Practice Act related to health services operations. Coordinate district practices and procedures related to student health plans, chronic health conditions, and emergency medical protocols. Support campus nurses and staff in managing health services for students with complex medical needs and individualized healthcare plans. Oversee implementation and compliance of required student health screenings and related reporting procedures. Coordinate district emergency health response procedures, including CPR, AED, and emergency medical protocols. Compile, maintain, and file required physical and electronic records, reports, and documentation, including student health information and required state reporting. Maintain district health services and employee wellness website content. Coordinate health services activities with outside agencies and health care providers to support student access to adequate health services. Budget and Resource Management Compile budget and cost estimates based on documented program needs. Organize and administer health services budget to ensure cost-effective operations and responsible fund management. Coordinate supply orders and distribution for all campus clinics. Recommend equipment purchases, replacements, and repairs to support campus health service operations.Additional Responsibilities:
Adhere to all district policies, procedures, and expectations as outlined in the employee handbook and administrative regulations. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Engage in strategic planning, leadership collaboration, and continuous professional growth aligned with the goals of the department and district.
