As an Authorization and Referral Coordinator, you'll play a vital behind-the-scenes role in making that happen. By securing necessary insurance authorizations and coordinating referrals, you'll help remove barriers to care, support our clinical teams, and create a smoother experience for patients during their healthcare journey.
In This Role, You Will:
Obtain prior authorizations for inpatient and outpatient services, procedures, and treatments to ensure timely care. Review and verify insurance coverage, benefits, and requirements to prevent service delays. Coordinate referrals from primary care providers to specialists and other healthcare services. Track and follow up on the status of referrals and authorizations to ensure proper documentation and follow-through. Maintain accurate records in the hospital's electronic medical records (EMR) system and prepare reports as needed. Communicate with insurance companies, providers, and patients to clarify benefits, requirements, and next steps. Provide support and education to staff and providers regarding authorization and referral procedures. Ensure compliance with payer guidelines, HIPAA regulations, and hospital policies.
What We're Looking For:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in healthcare or business administration preferred. At least 2-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting, with prior experience in billing, referrals, or insurance verification strongly preferred. Proficiency in EMR systems and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Knowledge of insurance plans, payer requirements, and HIPAA compliance. Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced setting.
