Medical Director - Executive Behavioral Health Part time Thesis Capital Partners Arlington, VA Job Details Part-time | Contract 3 days ago Qualifications CPHQ Psychiatry Care documentation Mental health facility experience Addiction medicine Clinical documentation Medical License Clinical documentation standards Senior leadership Full Job Description About Us We are opening a premium, well-capitalized behavioral health facility built to disrupt the executive treatment space in the DMV region. Backed by disciplined institutional capital with existing treatment centers, we run with the operational agility of a startup and the rigorous financial modeling of a private equity sponsor. We are seeking a highly disciplined, commercially aware Medical Director who understands that elite clinical care and unit economics are inextricably linked. We operate a pure meritocracy without bureaucratic hospital ceilings. For an execution-oriented clinical leader, this role offers the immediate mandate to architect a flagship program from the ground up, with a direct pathway to regional executive leadership as we scale this clinical model into a multi-site platform. We look for clinical leaders who are a pleasure to work with that lead through competence and constructive partnership rather than hierarchy or office politics. If you are an exceptional clinician who is entrepreneurial and values a direct, transparent work environment and prefers to spend your energy on patient outcomes and operational excellence, you will find this to be an ideal fit. Position OverviewOperating exclusively on an Out-of-Network (OON) and private-pay model, our facility specializes in high-acuity Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and Dual Diagnosis treatment. We offer Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT).Your mandate is to provide high-level clinical oversight while maintaining the efficiency required of a premium facility. You will design and implement the clinical protocols that define our brand and serve as the medical authority for our Utilization Review (UR) strategy, ensuring that all clinical interventions are documented to the standard required by commercial insurance payers.
Core Responsibilities Protocol Design:
Develop and oversee high-acuity clinical protocols, including evidence-based MAT strategies and dual-diagnosis stabilization, tailored to an executive-level demographic.
Utilization Review Authority:
Serve as the clinical escalation point for peer-to-peer (P2P) reviews. Defend medical necessity to commercial payers to maintain high authorization rates and protect facility cash flow.
Regulatory Compliance:
Maintain zero-variance compliance with the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) and JCAHO standards. Ensure clinical chart audits are accurate and defensible.
Clinical Leadership:
Provide oversight and consultation to the clinical and nursing staff, fostering a culture of clinical accountability and excellence.
Qualifications & Requirements Licensure:
MD or DO with an active, unrestricted license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Board Certification:
Board Certified in Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine.
Commercial Literacy:
Proven experience working in OON or private-pay behavioral health settings. Deep understanding of how medical documentation requirements impact commercial insurance authorizations.
Executive Presence:
Ability to engage authoritatively with high-net-worth clients, family offices, and executive referral sources when required. Compensation StructureWe offer a competitive monthly retainer for core clinical responsibilities, supplemented by a performance-based incentive structure. To align with our ownership model, incentives are tied directly to Utilization Review success rates and clinical documentation audit performance. This rewards medical leadership that ensures both patient outcomes and facility financial stability.
