Administrator of Fine Arts, Health and Physical Education, and Athletics
Central Office
12-month position
Are you a visionary leader passionate about nurturing creativity and shaping the future of fine arts, health and physical education, and athletics? Montgomery County Public Schools, Virginia is seeking a dynamic Administrator of Fine Arts, Health and Physical Education, and Athletics to lead our programs. This is a twelve month position.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Administrator of Fine Arts, Health and Physical Education, and Athletics provides leadership, coordination, supervision, and support for Montgomery County Public Schools programs in fine arts, health and physical education, and athletics. The administrator plans, implements, directs, and evaluates division-wide programs; supports curriculum development and instructional improvement; coordinates program operations, events, and resources; and assists school-based administrators, teachers, athletic directors, coaches, students, families, and community partners.
This position promotes high-quality student learning experiences, safe and equitable participation opportunities, effective instructional and coaching practices, and alignment with division goals, Virginia Standards of Learning, Virginia High School League requirements, and applicable MCPS policies and procedures.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are representative of the position. They are not intended to be all-inclusive.
Provide effective leadership in developing, implementing, supervising, and evaluating comprehensive programs in fine arts, health and physical education, driver's education and athletics
Develop, review, and support curriculum, curriculum guides, pacing resources, instructional materials, and assessment practices for fine arts and health and physical education
Support alignment of fine arts and health/physical education curriculum with Virginia Standards of Learning, MCPS instructional priorities, and division-wide goals
Provide resource support, instructional coordination, and professional learning opportunities for fine arts, health, physical education, driver's education, athletic, and related staff
Supervise, support, and collaborate with fine arts, health, physical education, and driver's education teachers, athletic directors, coaches, and other assigned personnel
Assist principals and school administrators with observations, staff feedback, interviews, hiring recommendations, scheduling, program evaluation, and other school-based needs related to assigned areas
Coordinate and support division-wide fine arts events, including but not limited to art shows, band events, chorus events, student performances, exhibits, installations, and related activities
Coordinate and support division-wide health, physical education, driver's education, wellness, athletics, and student activity initiatives as assigned
Provide leadership and support for athletic programming, including coordination with school athletic directors, coaches, administrators, families, and community partners
Support compliance with applicable MCPS policies, Virginia Department of Education requirements, Virginia High School League rules, safety expectations, eligibility procedures, and other applicable regulations
Assist schools with athletic scheduling, event supervision, contest management, transportation coordination, facility use, and communication regarding athletic programs as needed
Promote fine arts, health and physical education, driver's education, and athletic events through calendar development, communication, and coordination with schools and division staff
Assist staff with acquiring supplies, equipment, uniforms, instruments, instructional materials, repairs, replacement needs, and other program resources
Collaborate with division and school administrators to improve student achievement, student engagement, program access, and teacher/coach effectiveness
Communicate with administrators, teachers, athletic directors, coaches, parents/guardians, students, and community members to provide administrative support, enhance program awareness, assist with implementation, and support conflict resolution
Participate in meetings, workshops, conferences, professional learning, and regional/state activities for the purpose of conveying and gathering information required to perform assigned duties
Support safe, inclusive, and equitable opportunities for student participation in fine arts, health and physical education, driver's education, athletics, and related activities
Assist with budget planning, resource allocation, purchasing, inventory, and long-range program planning for assigned areas
Monitor program effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement
Maintain accurate records, reports, calendars, communications, and documentation related to assigned programs
Must possess the physical and mental capability for the sole supervisory responsibility of public school students
Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Fine Arts, Music, Health and Physical Education, Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field
Five or more years of successful teaching, administrative, or supervisory experience
Thorough knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, program development, and best practices in fine arts, health and physical education, and athletics
Knowledge of procedures and practices related to student activities, athletic programs, event coordination, safety, eligibility, supervision, and program compliance
Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, organizational leadership, and communication skills
Strong ability to work effectively with school personnel, students, parents/guardians, community members, and outside organizations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional license in Administration and Supervision
- PreK-12
Hold or be eligible for a teaching endorsement in one or more related areas, including Art, Music, Health and Physical Education, Driver's Education or another appropriate instructional area
Experience with athletic's administration, coaching, VHSL compliance, student activities, or extracurricular program supervision
Minimum of two years in an administrative, supervisory, athletic director, department chair, instructional leadership, or comparable leadership position
SALARY:
$92,560.00
52 annually, with benefits; commensurate with experience
