Job Description

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position The Lead Perioperative Attendant is responsible for assisting the clinical staff by performing a variety of support functions that facilitate the delivery of surgical/procedural services to the patient working under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated health care professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of the organization. In addition to the duties of Perioperative Attendant II, the Lead Perioperative Attendant is responsible for the oversite of the OR Attendant team and/or assigned to a Service Line to provide support. Essential Job Functions
  • Performs all essential job functions of a Perioperative Attendant, including but not limited to, set-up of surgical suites, room turnover, patient positioning and transportation, management of equipment and positioning devices, stocking of supplies, running errands, POCT support, and maintenance of warming logs as needed based upon department design.
  • Performs all essential job functions of a Perioperative Attendant II including but not limited to setting up the operating room for cases, performing surgical hand scrub, gowning and gloving, functions in the second scrub role holding retractors/extremities as needed, assists with opening sterile supplies to the sterile field, and utilizes the preference card to gather appropriate supplies, instruments and equipment needed for cases.
  • May have additional duties as assigned dependent upon state regulation to include but not limited to setting up and maintaining the sterile filed for cases.
  • Inventories and restocks all implants, supplies, and instrumentation as directed. Based on facility operating room needs, communicates to the Specialty Service Line Coordinator the necessary supplies/implant stock to be reordered. Participates and communicates need for reordering replacement supplies/implants. Works directly with the Specialty Service Line Coordinator.
  • Oversees the Perioperative attendant team's daily operations which may include scheduling and assignments based on facility operating room design.
  • Functions as subject matter expert and may be assigned to a specific service line.
  • Is a point of escalation for issues that may arise throughout the day
  • Demonstrates understanding of autoclave, able to prepare instruments for sterilization, and able to set up One Tray, based upon facility operating room design. If trained, able to clean and reprocess endo scopes.
  • Serves as a preceptor for new employees, assists with professional development, and is responsible for training and sign-off on competencies for the Perioperative Attendant II role.
  • Submits performance-based appraisals summaries, as delegated by leader, in thorough employee evaluation and provides ongoing appraisal through notes.
  • If trained, able to clean and reprocess endo scopes and TEE scopes.
  • Contributes to unit performance improvement and/or quality improvement activities.
  • Take call as required.
