Job Description

Overview:
We are seeking a qualified and experienced
  • Clinical Director
  • to oversee the clinical operations of our
  • DBHDS-licensed outpatient substance use disorder treatment facility
  • in Salem, Virginia. The Clinical Director is responsible for ensuring compliance with
  • Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS)
  • regulations, providing clinical leadership, supervising licensed and credentialed staff, and maintaining high-quality, person-centered, and recovery-oriented services.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the
  • Clinical Director as defined by DBHDS regulations (12VAC35-105-20)
  • Provide oversight and direction of all clinical services within the outpatient substance use disorder program
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with
  • DBHDS licensing standards
  • , policies, procedures, and audits
  • Develop, implement, and monitor clinical policies and procedures in accordance with state regulations
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate clinical staff, including licensed counselors and QMHPs, in accordance with DBHDS credentialing requirements
  • Ensure appropriate clinical supervision is provided and documented as required by DBHDS
  • Review and approve clinical documentation, including assessments, individualized service plans, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries
  • Ensure services are delivered in accordance with
  • ASAM criteria
  • , trauma-informed care, and evidence-based practices
  • Oversee quality assurance and performance improvement activities
  • Provide consultation on complex or high-risk cases
  • Participate in DBHDS inspections, corrective action plans, and ongoing compliance monitoring
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on program development, outcomes tracking, and service expansion
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Required:
  • Master's degree or higher in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field
  • Active, unrestricted Virginia clinical license (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, Psychologist, or equivalent)
  • Meets DBHDS qualifications for
  • Clinical Director
  • under
  • 12VAC35-105
  • Minimum of
  • 3 years of post-licensure clinical experience
  • in substance use disorder treatment
  • At least
  • 1 year of supervisory or management experience
  • in a behavioral health setting
  • Knowledge of DBHDS licensing standards, documentation requirements, and service authorization
  • Preferred:
  • Prior experience serving as Clinical Director or Program Manager in a DBHDS-licensed facility
  • Experience with
  • Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
  • programs
  • Familiarity with CARF
  • Experience developing corrective action plans and responding to DBHDS citations
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • In-depth knowledge of
  • DBHDS regulations and licensing standards
  • Strong leadership and staff development skills
  • Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to ensure compliance while maintaining a person-centered, recovery-oriented environment
