Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Unit Manager to oversee the daily operations of a healthcare unit within a comprehensive care facility. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in clinical management, with a strong background in patient care, team supervision, and healthcare systems. As a Unit Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring high-quality patient outcomes, maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations, and fostering a collaborative environment that promotes excellence in service delivery. This role offers an opportunity to lead a multidisciplinary team committed to compassionate and efficient care. Responsibilities Lead and supervise nursing staff and healthcare professionals, providing guidance, performance evaluations, and ongoing training to ensure optimal team function. Oversee patient care activities, including assessments, medical documentation, medication administration, and vital signs monitoring, ensuring adherence to clinical protocols. Coordinate interdisciplinary collaboration across departments such as physical therapy, behavioral health, and social services to develop comprehensive care plans. Manage compliance with healthcare regulations including HIPAA privacy standards, infection control protocols, and accreditation requirements such as NCQA standards. Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems like Cerner or Athenahealth for accurate documentation, data management, and reporting purposes. Facilitate discharge planning, patient assessments, and long-term care strategies tailored to individual needs. Ensure safety procedures are followed diligently, including sterile processing techniques and aseptic techniques during invasive procedures like catheterization or spinal taps. Promote a positive work environment that encourages professional development while maintaining high standards of patient safety and satisfaction. Experience Proven management experience within acute care settings such as hospitals or nursing homes with demonstrated supervisory responsibilities. Extensive clinical background including critical care experience in ICU or Level I Trauma Centers; familiarity with trauma protocols is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), DRG systems, and utilization review processes. Experience working with diverse patient populations including geriatrics, pediatrics (including neonatal intensive care units), individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia care needs. Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth; familiarity with medical imaging, laboratory experience, and diagnostic evaluation is advantageous. Knowledge of infection control practices, medication administration procedures including injections and venipuncture, and advanced patient assessment skills. Supervisory experience managing multidisciplinary teams in settings that may include assisted living facilities or home care environments. Strong understanding of healthcare regulations related to HIPAA compliance, workers' compensation law, occupational health standards, and NCQA accreditation criteria.
