Role:
The Senior Director of Psychiatric and Medical Services is responsible for advancing the quality, accessibility, integration, and sustainability of the agency's psychiatric, medical and substance use treatment services. The position provides leadership to the medical provider team, supports consistent clinical standards and documentation practices, strengthens interdisciplinary collaboration, helps align psychiatric services with agency priorities, regulatory expectations, values-based payment models, and population health needs. Principal Responsibilities:
Leadership and Medical Services Oversight Provide leadership for psychiatric, medical, and substance use treatment services across the agency. Develop and implement systems to improve access, quality, provider productivity, service consistency, and continuity of care. Supports strategic planning for psychiatric and medical services, including staffing models, service expansion, workflow design, and sustainability under current an emerging payment models. Evaluate and improve medical service capacity, demand management, waitlists, productivity, access, and clinical risk, and lead strategies to strengthen service efficiency, responsiveness quality, and sustainability. Support program growth initiatives that improve access, outcomes and financial sustainability. Partners with the Finance Department to provide strategic financial oversight of medical services, including budget development, revenue performance, productivity expectations, cost management, reimbursement analysis, and long-term sustainability planning. Medical/Psychiatric Provider Team Leadership Provides leadership, support, and consultation to psychiatric providers and medical support staff. Promotes consistent standards for evaluation, diagnosis, prescribing, documentation follow-up, consultation, and coordination with therapy, case management, crisis, primary care, and substance use treatment services. Supports recruitment, onboarding, retention, and professional development of psychiatric providers. Participates in performance improvement efforts related to psychiatric service delivery. Direct Clinical Care Provides psychiatric evaluation, medication management, treatment planning, risk assessment, primary care screenings, and follow-up care for children, adolescents, and adults. Provides substance use treatment services within scope of practice, including MOUD, MAUD.
Collaborates with clients, families, guardians, primary care providers, schools, hospitals, crisis teams, and community partners as appropriate. Maintains timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation. Participates in an assigned on-call or clinical consultation rotation to support urgent psychiatric, medical, medication-related, substance use treatment, and clinical risk needs, including after-hours consultations required by agency policy. Quality, Compliance, and Risk:
Partners with quality improvement, compliance, and clinical leadership to support adherence to applicable regulations, payer requirements, documentation standards, and agency policies. Participates in clinical risk review, complex case consultation, incident review, and quality improvement activities. Supports development or implementation of medical protocols, prescribing standards, consultation processes, and care coordination practices, in collaboration with the psychiatrist Medical Director as applicable. Qualifications and Competencies:
Licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in Vermont, or eligible for Vermont licensure. Board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Experience providing psychiatric care to adults and children/adolescents. Experience with substance use treatment, including medication treatment for substance use disorders, as applicable and within scope. Demonstrated leadership experience in behavioral health, community mental health, integrated care, or a related setting. MBA, MHA, or comparable leadership/administrative experience preferred or required. Knowledge of community mental health systems, Medicaid-funded services, quality improvement, compliance, and interdisciplinary care. Must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation with personal automobile liability insurance coverage at or above the levels mandated by the State of Vermont. •Successful completion of a criminal history background check after hire.
