The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) believes everyone should have the opportunity to pursue meaningful work, and that employment, further improves a person's ability to live independently, make choices, and contribute to one's community. DVR provides people with disabilities the tools, support, and services required to achieve successful employment, which hopefully will result in a greater quality of life. In this role, you will lead and supervise the King County unit of 12 DVR staff in serving participants in the Transition Services. Beside DVR work experience, your experience to build rapport with office staff by identifying their current support needs and understanding the operational process and support vocational rehabilitation counselors is needed. A hybrid telework schedule is available for this King County-based job. Some of what you will do Supervise the King County Youth Transition Services unit by managing workloads, schedules, and daily operations to ensure consistent, high-quality service for students and youth with disabilities. Guide and oversee youth-focused VR services so students receive timely assessments, career exploration, work-based learning, and coordinated supports that lead to successful employment outcomes. Build and maintain strong partnerships with schools, districts, colleges, and educators to support early engagement and smooth transition from school to work or post-secondary education. Strengthen collaboration with WIOA and workforce partners to integrate VR services within the broader workforce system and expand opportunities for youth. Monitor case quality and compliance through regular case reviews, audits, and coaching to ensure timely case movement and adherence to federal and state requirements. Review and approve youth-related service spending and Individualized Plans for Employment (IPEs), ensuring funds are used responsibly and support planned services. Train, coach, and mentor staff to build confidence, skills, and consistency in delivering youth and transition services across King County. Lead outreach and engagement efforts to increase awareness of DVR services among students, families, schools, and underserved communities. Resolve concerns and support problem-solving by collaborating with staff, participants, families, advocates, and partners to address barriers and improve service delivery. Participate in regional and statewide leadership work to inform decisions, share insights from the field, and support continuous improvement of youth and transition services. Professionals with the following should apply Advanced knowledge of DSHS DVR
service delivery policies, procedures, and practices that result in successful employment outcomes for people with disabilities that consist of: 4 years of paid experience• as a vocational rehabilitation counselor or similar paid experience in vocational counseling, job placement, vocational assessment, or other areas of rehabilitation counseling. This experience may be gained either before or after obtaining a qualifying education or CRCC certification. 1 year of the paid experience may be substituted with unpaid experience consisting of: Direct work with people with disabilities in a setting such as an independent living center; or Direct service or advocacy activities that provide people with experience and skills in working with people with disabilities; or Direct experience as an employer, as a small business owner or operator, or in self-employment, or other experience in human resources, recruitment, or experience in supervising employees, training, or other activities that provide experience in integrated employment environments. And one of the following:
A current certification as a Rehabilitation Counselor by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) Or, a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, psychology, counseling, or a field related to vocational rehabilitation (such as one that promotes the physical, psychosocial, or vocational well-being of people with disabilities) Or, a master's degree with at least 18 quarter or 12 semester credit hours of rehabilitation counseling courses.
