POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Outpatient Surgery presents an exciting opportunity to play a key role in opening the new HUB Surgery Center as part of the Snoqualmie HUB project. This role will actively contribute to designing and implementing workflows, policies, and procedures to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality operations from day one. This is a rare chance to help build a surgical program from the ground alongside a highly engaged clinical and administrative team. This role will provide operational and strategic leadership for outpatient surgical services at Snoqualmie Valley Health. This role oversees all aspects of ambulatory surgical care, including pre-operative services, intraoperative support, post-anesthesia care, and related procedural areas. The role will report to the Chief Nursing Executive (CNE) and will work in partnership with the Outpatient Surgery Medical Director, assuming responsibility for directing, managing, and coordinating all aspects of the Outpatient Surgery Center. The Director will collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing leadership, and hospital administration to ensure safe, efficient, high quality surgical services while supporting program sustainability, regulatory compliance, and enhanced community access to care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Clinical & Operational Leadership Provide day-to-day leadership for outpatient surgical services, including staffing, scheduling, patient flow, and case coordination Maintain an active presence in clinical operations, providing support and coverage as needed Ensure efficient use of resources while maintaining high standards of patient care Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures appropriate for a CAH setting Quality, Safety & Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation, CAH regulations, state licensing, and accreditation standards Lead quality improvement, patient safety, and infection prevention efforts within outpatient surgery Monitor clinical outcomes, patient experience, and performance metrics Investigate incidents, near misses, and patient concerns and implement corrective actions Physician & Anesthesia Collaboration Build and maintain strong working relationships with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and procedural staff Support block scheduling, case prioritization, and flexible scheduling models typical of CAH environments Serve as a liaison between medical staff and hospital leadership for outpatient surgical services Staffing & Workforce Management Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise outpatient surgery staff, often across multiple roles Promote cross-training and competency to support staffing flexibility and coverage Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and corrective action as needed Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and engagement Financial & Resource Stewardship Manage departmental budgets with a focus on cost control, productivity, and sustainability Oversee supply utilization, inventory management, and vendor relationships Support capital planning for equipment replacement and limited expansions Collaborate with Materials Management and Finance to ensure fiscal responsibility Program Sustainability & Growth Evaluate service mix and case volume to support financial and clinical viability Identify opportunities to expand or retain services locally to reduce patient outmigration Support recruitment and retention of surgeons and anesthesia providers Participate in planning for facility upgrades, equipment needs, or limited expansions Interdisciplinary Collaboration Collaborate closely with Nursing, Sterile Processing, Materials Management, Quality, Infection Prevention, Clinics, and Facilities Participate in hospital committees, performance improvement initiatives, and leadership meetings Serve as a visible, approachable leader within a small, team-oriented organization Education Bachelor's degree in nursing or related healthcare field (required) Master's degree in nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field (preferred) Licensure & Certification Current RN license in Washington (required) CNOR or other perioperative certification (preferred) Experience Minimum of 3-5 years of leadership experience in perioperative or surgical services Experience running Multispecialty 3-4 room Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Experience in Critical Access Hospital or rural healthcare setting preferred Demonstrated experience with CMS compliance, staffing flexibility, and resource-limited operations Skills & Abilities Hands-on, adaptable leadership style suited to a small hospital environment Strong clinical judgment and operational problem-solving skills Ability to balance regulatory requirements with practical operations Excellent communication and relationship-building skills Physical Demands Ability to move throughout surgical and clinical areas Ability to assist with patient care or equipment positioning as needed Ability to respond quickly to emergencies Work Environment Critical Access Hospital outpatient surgical department Variable schedule based on surgical volume and staffing needs
