OB MANAGER

POSITION SUMMARY
Current Opening:
(1) Full-Time position. The OB Manager oversees the daily operations of the Obstetrics Unit and ensures delivery of safe, high quality, patient centered care for laboring patients, postpartum patients, and newborns. Working in collaboration with the Director, this role provides leadership to OB nursing staff, maintains regulatory and CMS CoP compliance, ensures continuous survey readiness, and supports Baby Friendly initiatives, quality improvement, clinical education, and staff development.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Oversee day to day operations of the OB Unit — in collaboration with the Director — ensuring alignment with CMS Conditions of Participation (CoPs) for obstetrical and emergency services. Maintain continuous survey readiness, including adherence to CMS interpretive guidelines and emergency preparedness Ensure OB rooms, equipment, and supplies are properly stocked, functional, and compliant with departmental policies Coordinate, support, and document Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative activities to maintain designation. Provide leadership, coaching, and clinical guidance to OB nursing staff — in collaboration with the Director. Support staff onboarding, orientation, refresher training, and competency validation. Work collaboratively with House Supervisors and nursing leadership to support safe staffing and scheduling practices. Foster a positive, collaborative team culture that emphasizes communication, accountability, and trauma informed care. Maintain OB department policies, audits, and monthly tracking tools. Participate in and support quality improvement initiatives, including maternal safety projects, emergency preparedness drills, and CMS aligned clinical protocols. Monitor clinical and operational metrics, identify trends, and recommend improvement strategies aligned with departmental and organizational goals on monthly dashboard. Support documentation quality and regulatory readiness through participation in mock surveys similar to the Mock Survey Review Coordinate annual and ongoing OB education with internal educators and regional partners, consistent with CMS requirements for emergency training. Participate in regional and statewide OB quality collaboratives and grant funded initiatives that support maternal health improvement. Hiring, Workforce Planning & Professional Engagement Assist with reviewing applications, screening candidates, and participating in interviews — in collaboration with the Director. Support retention efforts by promoting professional growth, recognition, and constructive feedback. Lead or support rollout of new clinical protocols, documentation improvements, technology upgrades, and workflow enhancements. Coordinate with Facilities, IT, and vendors as needed for departmental equipment and space needs. Collaborate across departments to ensure safe care transitions, effective Participate in development of the annual OB department budget — in collaboration with the Director — including staffing considerations, supply forecasting, education needs, and equipment planning. Assist in monitoring budget performance, identifying variances, and recommending corrective actions that support financial sustainability.KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Current RN license (Wyoming or compact state). (required) Minimum 3 years of OB nursing experience. (required) Certified Lactation Counselor (required) Strong knowledge of CMS Conditions of Participation, maternal child health standards, and regulatory requirements. (required) Demonstrated leadership ability and strong communication skills. (required) Previous leaderships experience of 3 years. (preferred) National certification (RNC-OB, C-ONQS, or similar). (preferred) Experience with Baby Friendly initiatives, quality improvement programs, or maternal safety collaboratives. (preferred)SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Ability to read and communicate effectively. Ability to use therapeutic communication skills in order to establish rapport with childbearing families. Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Ability to modify teaching based on the developmental/functional age of the childbearing family as well as that of the family's ethnic background. Ability to interact with patients, families, visitors, and co-workers. Ability to interact tactfully during group discussions. Ability to demonstrate a professional, open-minded approach while providing feedback during individual/group communications.PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS
Must regularly lift and or move 5 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
