Full Job Description Benefits:
Competitive salary Position Overview The Medical Equipment Planner is one of the most technically specialized roles in this contract — and one of the most impactful. You will independently plan, specify, budget, and manage the procurement and installation of medical equipment across all major construction and activation projects at LBVAHCS. Your work ensures that clinical spaces receive the right equipment, properly integrated with the facility's electrical, data, AV, and security infrastructure, and that it arrives on time and is correctly installed, documented, and commissioned. This role requires deep familiarity with both the clinical and technical dimensions of medical equipment — from understanding FDA and TJC regulatory requirements to coordinating between architects, biomedical engineers, IT specialists, and clinical staff. If you have worked in healthcare capital equipment planning and want stable, long-term federal contract work supporting a VA medical center's major construction program, this is an exceptional opportunity. Key Responsibilities Equipment Planning & Analysis Conduct existing equipment inventory audits; perform value-cost analyses and comparative equipment studies; produce reuse analysis reports with recommendations per VA guidelines. Analyze architectural drawings, equipment schedules, and electrical/data plans to identify gaps and overlaps between proposed equipment and designed space. Integrate medical equipment with infrastructure technology including AV systems, security, acoustics, IT infrastructure, and information systems. Coordinate, plan, document, and schedule the movement of existing equipment alongside the procurement and installation of new equipment. Procurement & Documentation Produce complete procurement packages per VA/GSA standards: SOW, technical specifications, IGCEs, bid sheets, drawings, and delivery/installation schedules. Administer and oversee medical equipment planning including budget management, standards and specifications, for all LBVAHCS major construction projects. Maintain the digital resource library of equipment drawings, specifications, procurement documents, and project correspondence. Review pre-planning and activation contractor deliverables to ensure accuracy, completeness, and coordination with architectural drawings. Stakeholder Coordination Coordinate with Facilities Management, OIT, Patient Safety, Sterile Processing, Logistics, Contracting, Informatics, Environmental Management, and Biomedical staff. Provide training and education to clinical staff on new medical technology during move-in; coordinate with VA Biomedical and Logistics for EIL tagging and electrical documentation. Act as technical representative for equipment specification matters; ensure facility standards are met throughout design, implementation, and installation. Identify equipment and design conflicts during the design process to prevent costly construction delays. Required Qualifications Education & Experience (One of the following must be met) Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Healthcare Administration, Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field; OR8-10 years of medical equipment planning experience in a healthcare or hospital construction environment. Technical & Regulatory Knowledge — Required Ability to write equipment specifications and statements of work for medical equipment procurement.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, and engineering specifications.

Knowledge of medical equipment regulatory bodies and standards: TJC, NFPA, FDA, NRC, AAMI.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).Conversance with electrical, low-voltage, mechanical, and structural engineering concepts as they relate to medical equipment integration. Preferred Qualifications Certified Healthcare Technology Management (CHTM) or similar biomedical/equipment planning certification. Prior VA or federal healthcare construction project experience. AutoCAD and Microsoft Project proficiency. Knowledge of VA Technical Information Library (TIL) and GSA equipment procurement processes. Familiarity with AV system integration, healthcare IT infrastructure, and medical device network connectivity.
