Job Description

Category Schools - Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist Job Type Contract A dynamic opportunity is available for an experienced Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist to support students in a school setting located in Chicago, IL. This contract position involves providing direct and consultative services during the regular school year, as well as Extended School Year (ESY) services, ensuring comprehensive support for students with hearing impairments.
Responsibilities:
Deliver 100 minutes per week of direct instruction tailored to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Provide 180 minutes per month of consultative support to classroom teachers and staff to enhance student learning and accessibility. During ESY (June 15, 2026 - July 24, 2026, Monday through Friday), conduct 100 minutes per week of direct Hearing Itinerant Services. Offer 75 minutes per month of consultative Hearing Itinerant Services during the ESY period. Collaborate with educators, therapists, and families to develop effective communication and learning strategies. Monitor and evaluate student progress to tailor instructional approaches.
Qualifications:
Certification or licensure as a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher or Specialist. Previous experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in a school environment. Strong knowledge of communication methodologies and assistive technology. Excellent collaboration and communication skills. Ability to manage time effectively within direct and consultative service schedules.
