  • Full-time Job Overview Responsible for working under the direction of a Licensed Hearing Aid Dispenser while training to become a Licensed Hearing Aid Dispenser. Receives practical hands-on training provided on the job by an assigned mentor. All apprentices must be actively enrolled in a course of study to meet the requirements needed to become a Licensed Hearing Aid Dispenser. Responsibilities
  • Provides prompt courteous member services and responds to any customer problems.
  • Communicates with members via phone providing general information about the hearing aid department, general troubleshooting guidance, and schedules member appointments.
  • Performs administrative duties consisting of using the office management system to maintain member records and schedule appointments, maintains department inventory, orders supplies, answers phone and returns calls left via voicemail.
  • Assists members with scheduling appointments, answering questions about products and services, device evaluation and services as allowed by state law.
  • Checks in and stores all daily receiving, including assembling and/or charging member devices for delivery.
  • Actively enrolled in a course of study meeting the requirements needed to become a Licensed Hearing Aid Dispenser. This program averages 2-15 hours a week of home study and completion of homework as assigned in the HAAP. Home study time will vary from 2 hours per week up to 15 hours per week based on the educational materials.
  • Trains with mentor to learn the skills, knowledge and practical application of the hearing aid dispensing profession as allowed by state and federal law.
  • Performs Hearing Aid Dispenser duties as skills and knowledge progress consisting of consultations and exams. Uses equipment located inside a booth for testing and ear impressions. Recommends hearing devices, places orders, and refers for further care if needed, uses tooling and equipment to perform fittings, adjustments, and cleanings on hearing aid devices.
  • Uses equipment located within the department to conduct testing and ear impressions in a manner which is safe to the member and consistent with a passing score on the 'Ear Impression Certification Exam'.
  • Loads, operates cash register, and performs money transactions with customers.
  • Follows safety and security procedures, follows PPE requirements, and maintains cleanliness of the department.
  • Ensures proper procedures for cleaning and infection control are implemented.
  • Ensures proper cleanup and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Regular and reliable workplace attendance at your assigned location. Ability to operate vehicles, equipment or machinery.
  • Computer, phone, fax, copier, cash register, hand-held scanners, audiometer, probe microphone measurement equipment, manual and video otoscopes, hearing instrument test box, impression gun and/or syringe, hearing aids & accessories, hearing aid modification & maintenance equipment. Skills
  • Must attain appropriate Hearing Aid License or Registration as required by state law.
  • Must be enrolled in Spokane Falls Community College's (SFCC) AAS degree program in Hearing Instrument Sciences or enroll in the Washington Hearing Society's Hearing Aid Specialist Training (HAST) certificate program upon acquiring the apprentice position. SFCC or HAST tuition is the responsibility of the employee; reimbursement may be available once the candidate is fully licensed.
  • Eligibility for the Washington HAST certificate program is dependent upon the candidate having at least an associate degree in any field of study that includes minimum amount of credits in English composition, basic math, and humanities as required by
WAC 246-828-600
(Form F).
  • Must attain company standard score on technical skills assessment.
  • Costco Ear Impression Certification demonstrating a passing score on written and practical exams.
  • Additional education requirements pursuant to State Dispensing Law.
  • Active enrollment in a course of study to meet the requirements needed to become a Licensed Hearing Aid Dispenser. Must successfully obtain hearing aid dispenser license within 12 to 18 months (or longer as required by State Law) of acquiring apprentice position.
  • Computer skills, access to a computer with internet capabilities, ability to utilize web-based learning materials/applications and an email account.
  • Effective customer service skills, initiative and self-motivation. Ability to work well in teams and independently.
  • Proven ability to communicate information concisely.
  • Ability to travel by air and/or auto, sometimes with short notice.
  • Hazard Communication and JHA (initial assignment), Professionals HIPAA Training (prior to working in the department),

Part 1 (within 30 days and then every year),

Ear Impression Certification:
Written & Practical (within 9 months), Audiometric Evaluation & Fitting Protocol Acknowledgement (prior to working in the department and then every year), Health Center FCRA (prior to working in the department), Hazmat Universal Waste Training
  • Short Version (within 30 days and then every year), Option STOP Training (within 30 days), any additional certifications or training as required by department.
  • Must be current on annual safety training within 30 days of hire.
  • Management will review the Hearing Aid Apprentice Program Apprentice Agreement with the candidate prior to a job offer.
Selected candidate must review, and acknowledge the Hearing Aid Apprentice Program Apprentice Agreement as a condition of employment in this position.
Recommended:
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Driver's license preferred
  • Previous/current employment with Costco Wholesale.
  • Associate degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution of higher education that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Prior experience working in a Hearing Aid Center.
  • Proficiency with AS400 and Office Management.
  • Prior hearing aid experience preferred.
  • Computer, math, and customer service skills preferred.
