Job Description

BRIEF SUMMARY
: The Histology Technician works in the Pathology Department under the direction of the Pathologist and Director of Laboratory Services. Participates in the histology laboratory's preparation and staining of the tissue sections from surgical tissue or body fluids for microscopic study and interpretation by the pathologist.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
: Responsible for conducting technical functions within the Histology Lab. Performs work and priorities with Pathologist Prepares microscope slides by processing, embedding, cutting and staining surgical specimens for analysis by the pathologist. Maintains equipment logs and assigned area in compliance with accreditation and regulatory agencies. Responsible for inventory of supplies and inventory of tissues, blocks, slides and shipment of specimens to pathologist. Troubleshoots equipment and staining problems. Performs quality control, routine maintenance of equipment in the Pathology Department. Performs other job duties as assigned or requested. Participate in QA for the department when directed. Maintains good customer relations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
: None
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & EXPERIENCE
: High school diploma or GED preferred. Requires good working knowledge of medical terminology. 3. Requires the use of good communication skills, oral and written.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
: Histotechinician-ASCP certification preferred ( American Society for Clinical Pathology )
AGE OF POPULATION SERVED
: Newborn Infant/Pediatric Adolescent Adult Geriatric All x No Patient Care
