This position also oversees staff training and competency, investigates problems, makes operational decisions within the department and coordinates with other areas of the laboratory.

  • For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position ASCP Certification for Pathologist Assistant (current and renewed as required).
Graduation from a NAACLS approved Pathologists' Assistant program (Pathologists' Assistant degree must be provided.) Minimum of 5 years work experience as a Pathologists' Assistant. Possesses technical knowledge of Surgical Pathology procedures and pre-analytical processes, policies, and procedures as necessary for the supervision of this specialty laboratory section Possesses effective written and oral communication skills Knowledge of safety policies and procedures, occupational hazards, and safety precautions, including Department and UCDHS Infection Control policies and procedures including Standard Precautions procedures Knowledge of hospital and Laboratory Information System (LIS), EMR, hospital Incident Report System, email, Internet, Microsoft Office and data management software Possesses excellent interpersonal and team management skills to effectively collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other staff Possesses excellent problem-solving skills and utilizes resources effectively for resolution Ability to timely manage staff with fairness and respect, and follow the Principles of Community Knowledge of employee progressive disciplinary steps, collective bargaining agreements and human resources Leaves of Absence (i.e., FMLA, KinCare, Workers' Compensation, etc.) Ability to work productively in a busy and complex environment, meet deadlines and to remain flexible within a variety of changing demands Ability to manage several projects or tasks simultaneously and to exercise appropriate judgment when setting priorities. Possesses knowledge of and applies the principles of Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and Continuous Quality Improvement Ability to function and work effectively in a diverse work environment as well as identify and work through conflict to a positive resolution Ability to maintain confidentiality, follow and adhere to HIPAA regulations Ability to manage allocated resources, including labor and supply resources recognizing the relative costs and benefits of potential actions Uses good judgment in handling situations not covered by written or verbal instructions Preferred Qualifications Previous supervisory experience. Department Overview The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is a large, diverse, multi-site department whose mission is to create a healthier world through bold innovation in public health, education, technology and research. UC Davis is leading the way in diagnosing, treating, and ultimately preventing disease. Pathology brings these efforts together with education and patient care to transform the field. This position sets the highest standards for professionalism and competency in providing high quality customer service, diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients within UCDH and its affiliates. Our laboratories are licensed by the State of California, certified by CLIA, accredited by College of American Pathologists (CAP), AABB, and Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), and located in three distinct facilities: 1) Surgery and Emergency Services Pavilion (SESP); 2) Pathology Building; and 3) Specialty Testing Center (STC). The department is one of UCDH's largest ancillary services with annual gross revenues of over $415M, expenses of approximately $65M, and more than 350 overall employees in the department's clinical and academic sections. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine's mission is to provide high quality patient/physician services, to maintain excellence of the educational programs, and to perform scholarly research and development when appropriate. These objectives are to be met within the limits of resources available with emphasis on cost effectiveness and innovation.
