Job Description

HOURS ARE MONDAY-FRIDAY 05
30AM-02:30PM Summary The role of a Histology Assistant is to perform a variety of administrative and clerical tasks within the Histology Laboratory. Duties of the Histology Assistant include providing support to the histotechnologists, managers, supervisors, employees and pathologists. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Maintain the daily flow of work through the histology laboratory.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness in the lab, including the removal of lab waste.
  • Monitor inventory of the lab.
  • Monitors infection control and universal precautions adherence by all persons who enter the lab.
  • Assist Histotechnologists with ancillary tasks, such as receiving test orders, assembling materials for processing, reprocessing materials, loading & unloading IHCs.
  • Provide embedding and special stain support under guidance of a histotechnologist.
  • Management of histology blocks & slides such as labeling, coverslipping, staining, filing, and moving/discarding materials.
  • Documentation, tracking, and logging of materials.
  • Quality control of processed blocks & slides.
  • Case assembly & distribution to pathologists by the assigned deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate daily records such as temperature logs, QC logs, etc.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and instrumentation (processors, stainers, coverslippers, etc.).
