Overview Histology Technician (HT/HTL)
  • Dermpath We are seeking a full-time Histology Technician (HT/HTL ASCP) to join our growing dermatopathology laboratory in Tampa, Florida (Academic Alliance in Dermatology).
The Histotechnician is responsible for specimen processing, tissue embedding, microtomy, H&E staining, immunohistochemistry (IHC), special stains, quality control, and slide preparation while supporting accurate and timely dermatopathology diagnoses.
Schedule:
Monday
  • Friday | 7:00 AM
  • 3:30 PM (primary schedule) Occasional rotation to 8:00 AM
  • 4:30 PM based on laboratory needs.
Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist License in Histology is required. Responsibilities Job Summary:
Reporting to the Laboratory Director, the Histotechnician is responsible for specimen processing, tissue preparation, slide production, immunohistochemistry (IHC), special stains, quality control, and maintenance of laboratory records. This position follows established laboratory procedures to ensure the accurate and timely preparation of high-quality histology slides for dermatopathology diagnosis.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Perform histology procedures including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, sectioning, Hematoxylin & Eosin (H&E) staining, coverslipping, and slide preparation while maintaining the highest quality standards. Prepare and process tissue specimens for routine histology , Immunohistochemistry (IHC) , and Special Stains in accordance with laboratory protocols. Accession specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and maintain accurate laboratory documentation and records. Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and perform quality control on histology, IHC, and Special Stain instrumentation. Validate staining procedures, antibodies, reagents, controls, and quality assurance processes to ensure accurate diagnostic results. Assist with inventory management of laboratory supplies, reagents, antibodies, and consumables. Maintain compliance with
CLIA , CAP , OSHA
, and all laboratory quality and safety standards. Collaborate with pathologists, physicians, and laboratory staff to ensure timely, accurate dermatopathology diagnoses. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education and Experience:
HT(ASCP) registered or eligible or High School graduate with two (2) years of experience in a histology laboratory performing all of the following: fixation, specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, staining and reagent preparation. 1-2 years in the field of histotechnology. Two years of special stain experience is preferred.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Must have the skills equivalent to those taught in an accredited Histotechnology program. If hired in a Mohs lab, must be qualified as high complexity testing personnel under CLIA regulations. Basic knowledge and understanding of computers. Ability to read and understand written protocols, lab reference manuals, and memos. Manage large volumes of work accurately. Effective interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements:
