HISTOLOGY CLERK BOISE , IDAHO SUMMARY
: Performs clerical and environmental duties in the histology/cytology department. Accountable for accurately registering all mail in specimens in histology/cytology. Provides support for the pathologists in handling and retrieving specimens. Adheres to department standards for patient identification and specimen integrity.
REQUIREMENTS
: High school diploma or equivalent required. College graduates interested in working in the lab are encouraged to apply. Basic Medical Terminology and Anatomy required. Advanced classes in Medical Terminology preferred.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
1. Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. 2. Accurately registers patients (> 85%) into the hospital information system according to registration department protocols and standards. 3. Correctly labels cassettes/slides as prescribed with corresponding specimen accession number. 4. Retrieves specimen from surgery, radiology, or physicians' offices as needed. 5. Maintains cutting area for surgical and autopsy specimens. 6. Investigates and resolves all errors and complaints concerning histology/cytology registration problems. 7. Correctly and promptly, packages and ships specimens and supplies to outside locations for testing. 8. Accurately fills out and maintains forms, requisitions, and logs as necessary. 9. Receives and processes specimens according to established policies. 10. Serves as a liaison between patients, families, and professional staff. 11. Ability to communicate effectively with physicians and hospital staff. 12. Absolute integrity with patient information and in the accurate performance of tasks. 13. Ability to work independently. 14.
