  • Part-time Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Experienced Mohs Histotech to join our dynamic Dermatology team.
In this vital role, you will prepare and process complex skin tissue samples with the following responsibilities: Tissue Processing, Slide preperation, staining, mapping and assistance, equipment maintenance, compliance following strict CLIA, OSHA and HIPPA guidlines, as well as lab management such as ordering Mohs lab supplies, maintain chemical inventories and changing and keeping accurate patient/Clia lab logs. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where precision, efficiency, and attention to detail are paramount. The ideal candidate is passionate about laboratory science, possesses extensive experience in histotechnology, and thrives in collaborative settings. The desired candidate will be available to work part time on Mondays from 8 a.m-5 p.m. The salary range is between 35 and 45 dollars an hour based on skill set and experience. We usually do between 8 to 10 cases on a good Monday Mohs day. This position is set to start in late October but we want to secure a candidate to hire now in June or as early as possible. Responsibilities Prepare tissue specimens through fixation, embedding, sectioning, and staining using advanced laboratory techniques. Operate and maintain histology equipment such as microtomes, cryostats, and staining machines with precision. Ensure all laboratory procedures adhere to strict safety protocols and quality standards. Accurately document all specimen processing steps and maintain detailed records for traceability. Assist with specimen collection and processing from clinical or research sources, ensuring proper labeling and handling. Support pathology teams by providing high-quality slides for microscopic examination and diagnosis. Maintain a clean, organized work environment while following aseptic techniques to prevent contamination. Demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathology to interpret specimen requirements effectively. Check all upcoming Mohs patients insurances to make sure that no prior auth is needed for Mohs excision codes by insurance. This is an administrative duty that our Mohs tech works on once done in the lab for the day. Qualifications Proven clinical laboratory experience with a focus on histology or pathology laboratories. College associates or bachelors degree with at least 60 semester hours of college coursework including biology and chemistry. ASCP Histotechnician certification or equivalent Mohs histotech experience of 3 or more years working in Mohs lab. Extensive Mohs histotech experience involving tissue processing and slide preparation. Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques including fixation, embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting specimens. Solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathology principles. Experience operating laboratory equipment such as Leica cryostat, manual staining processes, and microscopes. Knowledge of aseptic techniques to ensure sample integrity during processing. Ability to accurately interpret laboratory procedures while adhering to safety standards. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail for documentation and recordkeeping. Ability to take feedback with grace and implement improvement if needed as given by the Mohs surgeon. Effective communication skills between Mohs surgeon and MA assisting in the surgical room are a must! Must be reliable and on time and not habitually call off sick or show up late for work.
