Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
Prepares histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologists
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties: Prepares sections of human or animal tissue for examination Routine tissue processing techniques to cut, mount and stain tissue specimen received for histologic examination Process, cut and stain blocks of tissue from autopsy specimens Assign ID number to all pathology specimens Keep a properly indexed file of slides and paraffin blocks Prepares reagent, stains and solutions as necessary for processing tissue specimens Maintain a complete process improvement program including monitoring logs, equipment and instrument maintenance records, control data, standards and safety maternal, procedures manuals
EDUCATION/LICENSE/ CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Minimum requirement: At least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, include either- 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 semester hours of science courses that include- Six semester hours of chemistry; and Six semester hours of biology; and Twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination Preferred qualifications:
NA WORKING ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional medical laboratory environment Regularly works near moving mechanical parts Regularly exposed toblood and/or body fluids andinfection. Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Occasionally required to maintain a stationary position (standing or sitting). Frequently required to walk and move about. Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment. Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices. Regularly required to communicate with physicians and other care team requiring talking and hearing. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
