Baton Rouge, LA Job Details Part-time | PRN From $22 an hour 23 hours ago Benefits Paid holidays Dental insurance 401(k) Paid time off On-the-job training Vision insurance Employee discount Qualifications Medical office experience High school diploma or GED Clinical laboratory experience Full Job Description Position Summary The Mohs Histology Technician is responsible for the preparation, processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and quality control of tissue specimens obtained during Mohs micrographic surgery. Working closely with the Mohs surgeon and clinical team, the technician ensures accurate and timely slide preparation to support same-day diagnosis and treatment. This position does not require Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification; on-the-job training may be provided for qualified candidates with laboratory, medical, or science-related experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Receive, verify, and accurately label tissue specimens from Mohs surgical procedures. Embed tissue specimens according to established Mohs laboratory protocols. Perform cryostat sectioning to produce high-quality frozen tissue sections. Stain slides using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) techniques. Maintain quality control standards to ensure accurate and readable slides. Assist the Mohs surgeon with specimen mapping and orientation as directed. Prepare and organize slides for microscopic evaluation. Maintain laboratory equipment, including cryostats and staining instruments. Monitor inventory of laboratory supplies and notify management when reordering is needed. Adhere to OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, and infection control guidelines. Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and records. Assist with laboratory cleanliness, safety procedures, and workflow efficiency. Participate in ongoing training and competency assessments. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a medical office, laboratory, pathology, dermatology, surgical, or healthcare setting. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive laboratory tasks. Preferred Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a biological science, medical laboratory science, or related field. Experience with frozen tissue processing, cryostat operation, histology, pathology, or Mohs surgery. Familiarity with laboratory quality assurance procedures. Experience handling biological specimens. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate laboratory equipment and handle delicate specimens. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the workday. Visual acuity required for identifying tissue structures and evaluating slide quality. Working Conditions Clinical and laboratory environment. Exposure to biological specimens, chemicals, and laboratory equipment. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
