Histotechnologist Position Summary The Histotechnologist prepares tissue and body fluid specimens sent for microscopic examination and diagnosis by a pathologist, performing any special staining techniques and /or immunoperoxidase techniques requested by the pathologist. He/She performs appropriate clerical and computer applications necessary to process ant charge these specimens The Histotechnologist participates in educational and training activities and may participate in routine administrative and non-routine technical functions. Histotechnologist Position Requirements Successful completion of an approved program of Histology Technology (A.A.) degree plus demonstrated technical proficiency resulting form certification by an accepted agency. One year preferred Histotechnologist Work Schedule Histology is staffed six days a week. Monday to Friday, it is staffed 0400 to 1600. Saturday, it is staffed 0400 to 1200. Personnel may be assigned to work mostly one shift or may have rotational schedules. Both options may include Saturdays. Rotational coverage of Saturdays and holidays. Expected to work overtime and/or additional weekends in times of staffing shortages, emergencies and unexpected increases in workload. Expected to respond in the event of a disaster.
