Job Description

Position Summary Northwell Health is seeking a dedicated Histotechnologist or Histotechnician to join the Department of Pathology at South Shore University Hospital. This role is responsible for preparing high-quality tissue specimens for microscopic examination, supporting pathologists in the diagnosis and treatment of patients across a wide range of clinical specialties. The ideal candidate will have experience in tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and frozen section preparation within a fast-paced pathology laboratory. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside an experienced pathology team while contributing to accurate and timely patient care. Responsibilities Perform grossing and preparation of tissue specimens for histologic processing. Process tissue specimens through fixation, dehydration, clearing, and paraffin embedding procedures. Operate and maintain tissue processors, embedding stations, microtomes, and related laboratory equipment. Cut and prepare high-quality tissue sections for microscopic examination. Perform routine and special staining procedures using automated and manual methodologies. Assist with frozen section preparation and intraoperative pathology support. Maintain accurate specimen identification, tracking, and documentation throughout the testing process. Perform quality control activities and routine equipment maintenance. Ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards, quality assurance programs, and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with pathologists and laboratory staff to maintain efficient workflow and turnaround times. QualificationsRequired Associate's Degree. Active New York State Histotechnician (HT) License or Clinical Laboratory Technician License. Strong understanding of histology laboratory procedures and specimen handling. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality. Preferred ASCP Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification. Previous histology laboratory experience. Experience with grossing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and frozen section preparation. Experience working in a high-volume pathology environment.
Pay:
$45.00 - $55.00 per hour
