As a teaching environment with advanced clinical programs and a Level I Trauma designation, this setting provides exposure to a wide variety of complex cases and cutting-edge diagnostic techniques. The laboratory and pathology services are well-developed, offering Histo Techs the chance to work with state-of-the-art equipment, automated staining platforms, and sophisticated laboratory information systems. In this role, you will be responsible for the full spectrum of routine and specialized histology procedures. Typical daily responsibilities include receiving and accessioning tissue specimens, embedding, microtomy, performing H&E and special stains, and participating in immunohistochemistry workflows. You will ensure accurate labeling and tracking of specimens, maintain high-quality slides for pathologist review, and adhere strictly to CAP and CLIA regulatory standards. Attention to quality control, instrument maintenance, and documentation is integral to the position. A typical day may involve working closely with pathologists, pathology assistants, and other laboratory professionals to meet demanding turnaround times for surgical biopsies, resections, and other tissue specimens. You may handle a diverse caseload drawn from general surgery, oncology, trauma, and specialty services. The environment is fast-paced but highly supportive, with clear protocols, strong teamwork, and opportunities for cross-training and skill development.
