Histology Technician Job Description We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Histology Technician to join our laboratory team. This role involves the preparation of tissue samples for examination by pathologists, playing a crucial part in the accurate diagnosis of diseases, including cancers. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in histology procedures and a strong commitment to maintaining high standards of laboratory safety and precision. Responsibilities Collect and prepare tissue samples from surgeries, biopsies, and autopsies. Embed tissues in paraffin wax for slicing. Use a microtome to cut extremely thin tissue sections. Mount tissue slides on glass for microscopic examination. Stain slides with chemicals, such as hematoxylin and eosin, to reveal cellular details. Maintain laboratory equipment and adhere to strict safety protocols. Collaborate closely with pathologists to interpret slides for accurate diagnoses. Essential Skills Certificate or associate degree in histotechnology or a related laboratory field. HT (ASCP) certification is often required. Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity. Comfortable working in a laboratory environment. A minimum of 5 years of experience in histology, as the role requires independent work. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree is preferred. HT or HTL certification is preferred. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Knoxville, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
