Upon the order of a qualified physician, the Histotechnologist will utilize specialized equipment to prepare frozen human tissue slides for diagnostic purposes according to policies, procedures, and protocols of the KSC Laboratory Services Department and Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. Daily Mohs Histology procedures include procuring, preparing, staining of tissue sections and assisting Mohs surgeons in making microscopic diagnoses. Histotechnologist will utilize the designated Mohs documentation procedures to complete clerical processes. May be assigned to other duties, technical or non-technical if training, experience and credentials are deemed adequate by supervisor to perform those duties.Primary Responsibilities:
Process, embed, cut and stain tissue specimens so a quality microscopic slide can be produced for diagnosis by the Mohs surgeon Prepare and maintain stains and other solutions required in staining procedures Perform and document quality control according to procedure Maintain laboratory equipment and instruments by completing daily and preventative maintenance; troubleshooting failures; calling for repairs; and monitoring equipment operation Maintain daily cleanliness of the lab area and operate and maintain the MOHS lab in a proper state of readiness to support the Mohs surgical practice to include availability at any time to resolve problems or issues that may arise Document all maintenance and troubleshooting activities appropriately Maintain supply inventory, verify inventory levels, and place orders as appropriate Review incoming orders, and inspect and verify supplies received against packing slip: initiate requests for vendor corrections Maintains Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) associated with purchases of chemical products Maintain ongoing compliance withCLIA & OSHA
regulations Assist in preparation for CLIA and other regulatory inspections and communicate with auditors during inspections Assist in the establishment and development of laboratory policies and procedures according to CLIA and other regulatory standards Maintain quality control logs and patient identification log Assess and verify the validity of patient test results through evaluation of quality control Maintain accurate and fully retrievable storage of patient slides and worksheets Aid in the investigation, installation, evaluation, and purchase of Mohs laboratory equipment, instrumentation, reagent systems, and other specialty items Assist in the development, evaluation, and implementation of new tests, methodologies, or products as directed by the Mohs surgeon Under the direction of the Mohs' surgeon, oversee and coordinate the training of all supplemental staff in principles of methods and applications within the Mohs lab As the Mohs surgeon's designee, this position will observe and document supplemental staff training and submit to Mohs Laboratory Technical Director for review, approval, and subsequent signature Under the direction of the Mohs surgeon, conduct ongoing competency assessments of supplemental staff; coordinate with Nurse supervisor/manager to schedule appropriate rotations to maintain supplemental staff competence Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:
Successful completion of a Histotechnician program AND 10+ years histology experience including 7 years in a Mohs laboratory OR Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program AND 7 years of histology experience including 5 years in a Mohs laboratory 7+ years histology experience including 5 years in a Mohs laboratory Experience with grossing description essential Skilled with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, and Outlook)Preferred Qualifications:
Associate Degree from a regionally accredited college/university, with a 24 semester hours of science courses that include: Six semester hours of chemistry Six semester hours of biology Twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification Experience with electronic medical record / EpicCare Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
