Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support an individual with autism in the Chugiak area while engaging in activities in the community. The ideal candidate will have personal or professional experience working with youth in diverse populations, including those with developmental disabilities and autism, or a willingness to learn. As a DSP, you will provide support and assistance to your client and help them achieve goals related to social activities and life skills to maximize independence, and provide respect and dignity in all situations. Duties The role of a Direct Support Professional (DSP) is made up of several sub-categories of jobs. Each category is associated with an independent hourly rate of pay. A DSP may perform some or all of these jobs based on the needs of the individual client.
These jobs include:
Day Habilitation Service Provider - Responsible for providing community-based/out-of-home support and assistance in achieving goals related to social activities and life skills. Rate of pay $26/Hour Respite Provider - The Respite provider has the primary responsibility to offer temporary relief to the primary caregiver of an Easterseals Alaska individual client. Rate of pay $21/Hour Qualifications 18 years of age or older High school diploma Be free of communicable diseases and other conditions that would pose a substantial safety or health risk to clients. Meet the requirements as provided by the Department of Senior Services and/or the Department of Health & Social Services. Must not have any convictions of abuse, neglect, or any other crime that would pose a threat or health risk to clients or their families. Communicate effectively in English, including reading written instructions and entering data in the client's file. Ability to implement services as outlined in the support plan. Must obtain a First Aid and CPR certification through an approved provider. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must have the ability to work on an individual basis or closely with a team. Possess the ability to communicate effectively with the client, family, and your supervisor.
